I'm assuming (hoping) that Scott had nothing to do with this decision. I feel bad for him because he tends to get the blame for things like this, earned or not.

Does he? Maybe on other forums... from what I've seen, this one tends to be pretty understanding of his position. We like the Rouse, even when we have beef with his employer.

Just because someone is paid to be a representative of the company doesn't make it morally good to vent your spleen at them.

Yes, it's their job to answer questions - sometimes angry questions. That doesn't make it your duty to make their lives tough or insult them.

-O

I'm with you on this 100%.

To a certain extent, my decision to not deal with WotC again is liberating in this respect.

Scott and company are now, to me, just fellow gamers who also sometimes hang out here at ENWorld. (Although I'm fairly sure they may all be avoiding the boards for the near future.:() Once they are all back on the boards, I look forward to just hanging with them. Just fellow gamers talking about our hobby.B-)

I'm aware that it's common practice. That doesn't make it right.
Didn't say it was. But you said:

OTOH, if I were Scott and I had forewarning but was forced to keep silent, I'd also be looking for work elsewhere. I left an employer a few years ago because they wanted me to lie to clergymen. You have to draw the line somehwere

Now as we both know this is common practice. It's wrong, but common. As common as common can be without being listed along with death and taxes. And you would consider this a place where Scott should draw a line? Really? The whole PDF debacle sucks but it's nowhere near line worthy.

Oh Hell Frakkin' Yes!!!

It like someone took a hammer to your knees and just swung with a joker's smile.

All that HARD EARNED respect...was just chucked out the window.

I can't speak for Scott, I guess, only for myself. If my employer told me that I had to keep information from a partner (somebody that I was supposed to be working with) — information that would almost certainly harm that partner — I'd find another job. I guess I hope that Scott would do the same.

It's dishonest behavior, period. There are plently of jobs that don't require me to engage in this kind of dishonest behavior to earn a paycheck. I'm not ready to compromise what I think are pretty basic ethics of doing business because other people do. Maybe you're ready to make that moral compromise, today. I'm not.

On the consumer side of things, as Truth Seeker mentions above, Scott worked very hard to build up a lot of good will. And then somebody came along and destroyed nearly all of that in a little under 12 hours. I wouldn't stick around for that, either. There are also still plenty of jobs where employers value hard work.

They're not partners. No more than Walmart is Apple's partner for selling their products. This isn't the breach you're making it out to be. It still sucks though. Especially since I was planning on my next campaign being Mystara based.

This is one of those times where we'll just have to agree to disagree on how we perceive things. I do however respect your stance and I hope you'll not see my view as belittling the morality behind it. :)

If I were Scott, I'd go to Vegas for ale (or other substances) and whores.

But then, that's what I'd do if I was anyone else for only a day, and didn't have to deal with the repercussions.

hahaha that's top advice if you ever fine yourself not being, um, yourself!
