[IK] Secrets You'd Like To Know

Much as I thought Iron Kingdoms could have been one of the best D20 settings, I probably won't be buying it if it ever appears as I've got plenty stuff for my D&D games and my campaign is well on the way.

Its missed the boat IMHO.

yeah, as i said earlier, privateer's publication schedule can be trying. when the first witchfire adventure came out, i was sure this was the setting in which i wanted to start a campaign. but then source material was slow in coming. however, with the monsternomicon and now the character primer, there is plenty of material [and the campaign guide is due out soon ... right?]. but, i think you're correctt: there are many fans out there who are going to jump ship before they really get started because of a lack of published material. and that's too bad because everything they release is really top-notch and very compelling.

now, i realize the d20 company is a part-time gig for all involved over at privateer press, but i think they need to recognize that in the current frenzy of d20 publications, they're going to lose customers to those like yourself who cannot endure these kinds of publication delays when building a campaign. since the first witchfire adventure was released in 2001, they've published only the second two installments of the adventure, the monster guide, and now the character primer [which relies heavily upon the forthcoming CG but is tremendous in its own right]. [plus one short pdf adventure]. 5 print products in almost 2 years [especially when none of them are the campaing setting book] really doesn't cut it.

As much as I'd love to see a Monsternomicon II, it seems like there's a lot of other things that would be a higher priority. Assuming the Campaign Guide is released on time, I'd much rather see the long-advertised Guide to Corvis before I saw another monster book.

I will have to say I was one of those pissed off people who screamed "WHY ARE YOU PUTTING OUT MONSTER BOOKS BEFORE SETTING BOOKS!??!?!?!?!!"

Then i realized this was a business. They HAVE to make money. What sells more Monster books that can be used in any setting, or setting books that cost more and are specific?

These guys AFAIK are doing this fairly well. It costs MONEY to put out a huge tome like they probably want to do. And in the meantime they have to rake in cash to put out this beast in the way and fashion that we have expected IK to be. I wanted to tear my hair out at the thought of not being able to buy the setting book till i looked at it from a publishers stand point.

Generic books sell more than non-generic books. Take monte's stuff as a perfect example. Once they have enough resources to put out the big tome o'IK then they'll put it out. IF it's april 2003 then groovy. If not then it'll come out when it comes out.

Hello All,

I have been a lurker on this thread for sometime and figured I would put in my two cents. I have only bought the Monsternomicon so far and I really enjoy it. I looked at it when I was at GenCon this year and really didn't get time to really look at it. Then Monte's Review of it and I found it at a WoTC store in the cities for 20 percent off, (all non WoTC d20 and RPG material is discounted to get rid of) and bought it. I read through it three times and all I have to say is WOW. The setting blows me away, I have been keeping up with Scared Lands and I believe I like this one ten times better.. I will be trying to get the Witchfire series when I can find them.

Darkbard, what is L&L?

As for Aldon and Smaugdragon, I agree that they could improve their interview skills and I have put up a few threads on how to improve the show, and they are working on it. Thanks for listening.
