[IK] Secrets You'd Like To Know

i'd like to point out that at the moment [well, until i just posted this, that is] this thread has a number of views equal to my number of posts! synchronicity?

[how's that for a bump?]

Would it really be considered low-magic overall? They just nerfed a few (somewhat important spells), but not the system as a whole. After all, if magical guns are (somewhat) common, it surely can't be all that bad for the adventuring party questing for loot :)

according to info posted on the IK yahoo discussion list, magic items in general--never mind magic guns--are rare and storied items. even the most "insignificant" +1 dagger should come with a full history and be a treasured item. some posters suggest following a 1/4 value treasure/level system [i.e. 2250 gp worth of character wealth at 5th level instead of 9000 gp].

Really ... never knew of that ... seems contradictory to the hinted ubiquitous Cygnarian 'Rifle Regiments' (I mean, if every soldier in a rifle regiment has a rifle...) and Caspian / Khardovic Steamjack founderies.

AT, have you picked up L&L yet? if you haven't yet, you should [it exceeded my high expectations]. mentioned in the section about character classes in the IK [how's this for abbreviation use?!?] is a note that magic item creation is treated differently in the lands of western immoren [costs will be much higher in terms of both XP and gold] and will be treated at length in the IKCG [alright, this abbreviation use is getting carried away!].

sure, steamjacks are produced for military and industrial purposes but, once again, there is a note that, though outdated 'jacks are auctioned off, they are usually purchased by guilds since their price is beyond the grasp of almost all individuals. there are units of riflemen in the military, but the designers make a point of stating and re-stating that firearms are still rare and are not meant to replace crossbows and bows in regular use. part of this, of course, is due to the required exotic weapon proficiency feat for use.

in any event, this is not to say that magic items do not exist or are not powerful when they do [see the witchfire, for example]. however, they should occur with much less frequency than the suggested distribution of the DMG, and will often have mechanika components [which, purportedly, will reduce creation costs].

if you're interested in further info about the IK [it certainly seems you are], you might want to consider joining the yahoo discussion group [there are links from the privateer press homepage]. the designers of the setting are very active posters and share their ideas about a number of issues with regularity.

Wow what a ko inky dink

I just finally decided to delurk and Regeister an account so I could ask a question about the IK, and here I come and there is already a whole thread about IK stuff. The only real question I had was if anyone was a member of the IK Yahoo group and how long did it take them to be approved? I signed up about 2 days ago and I'm eager to catch up on the posts of everyone else.

well, deadlar, i just joined the yahoo group this past week and it took about three or four days for full membership approval [after your initial approval there's a delay of a day or so before you can actually access the messages and post]. coincidence indeed!

welcome to ENWorld as well! look forward to swapping ideas about the IK both here and there with you [i'm darkbard2003 in the discussion group, by the by].

I actually do ... loved it as well, and read through all the character classes :D Except the Wizard :/ Whoops.

Ah, something new everyday. It makes sense to have that...

I think I joined a while ago, but I just never check out Yahoo! List Groups anymore. Will start doing now.

Much as I thought Iron Kingdoms could have been one of the best D20 settings, I probably won't be buying it if it ever appears as I've got plenty stuff for my D&D games and my campaign is well on the way.

Its missed the boat IMHO.
