Ill thought out campaign ending

Make it effect him only in melee (i.e. within say 10').

Then, use ways for him to either move away from the character with the starmetal, or move the character. This way, he may become weaker or stronger during the battle as the starmetal character tries to stay with him.

Have the effects build up the longer the character stays with him.

Round 1 - shaken (-2 AT, ST, skills)
Round 2 - shaken and fatigued, DR reduced by X
Round 3 - shaken and exhausted, DR reduced by 2X
etc.

Have BBEG recover twice as fast as he was affected - so if he is affected for 3 rounds then gets away for a round, he goes back to shaken (and will be fine after another round).

I really like that idea, 10" from the boss seems small but the idea is a good one, he becomes Turned (as a Cleric Turns Undead) and must flee the source but make a Will save to resist if he fails, or voluntarily fails, and be forced to flee
