This ebay auction seriously pisses me off.

Special thanks to a customer that pointed it out to me. I'm trying to get it yanked.

Isn't it good to know all the hard work you do to make products inexpensive and available to people, all it takes is one jerk off make you want to kill him.

What's worse is ebay makes it next to impossible to report this sort of thing. A year ago when I had to report someone selling my PDFs there was a link at the bottom of the page -- now it's a challenge to figure out what to do.

So I just sent the link to WotC. I'm still going to try to contact ebay but I figure WotC has better resources to deal with this sort of thing than I do.

So the "seller" responded to my question with:

I have not stolen from anyone. I am simply reselling an item that I purchased in order to recoup my loses. I do not know who you are at to which PDFs you are refering to. Although if you are the creator of these then I have several people who would be interested in talking to you. They claim that creating these things was illegal. If you are a legit author of one of something listed, please submit proof and verification of identity and I will remove it. Like I said i'm simply looking to get my money back for what I paid for the stuff and I believe that there will be more than enough items to do so even if I remove a few.

The next time one of those pro-piracy losers start spouting "They wouldn't have bought it anyway", or "People download it just to see if they want to buy the product or not", we need to point that loser to this thread...

Sigh ...

Ebay tends to isolate themselves by making the seller "responsible." There is a way/place to report it, but at first glance I couldn't find anything easy either.

Don't expect WotC to go out of their way to do anything about it quickly, they generally don't move very fast. I would hope that they would in this case as this, er, "individual" is clearly in need of a lobotomy. You can be sure that once he is booted from Ebay he'll find a different place to sell "his" disc.

I've finally managed to find a phone number for ebay -- now I have to wait for them to open.

Hmm, I'd never considered doing that. Technically, is this illegal? If he doesn't have the PDF installed on his computer anymore doesn't this essentially constitute free-use?

Don't get me wrong, I've sold cars and been in the online gaming industry for years now. I know that 'buyers are liars' and that the likelyhood of this guy only selling one copy of your product and deleting it after the sale is incredibly remote... but you've got to prove that he's sold more than one copy don't you?

I don't know if you'd be successful or not, but you might try contacting the woman that owns ebay/paypal (I don't remember her name). I know that she's a staunch opposer of online gaming on the grounds that 1) we're immoral and 2) out ot defraud people (both points are both true & untrue depending on the site in question). You might be able to gain a little ground with her if you can relate the illegal sale of your product with immorality somehow.

Just my 2 or 3 cents.

It's just sad to watch a culture have such little respect for things of value and/or sentimentality. eBay has become the Great Pawn Shop in cyberspace. It's people like this guy that'll take their wedding ring down to Cash America for beer money...

Well I thought some of the ebooks he has listed I don't think have ever been eBooks. The DMG 2 is eBook?

Plus you don't have to prove he sold anything, if you are going after the person in a "Conspiracy to" commit crime. Just that they planned to do it. That one is use ALOT on drug dealers.
