I just heard from a friend that it is now illegal for people to play D&D with others in the US, and was wondering, is this true? Does anyone know more details?

I'd say it's very unlikely. But then again, much is possible in the US.

Though I still doubt it. Where has your friend heard it?

Heh, a Jack Chick dream come true.

Allow us all to pause for a moment in fond remembrance of Blackleaf. Why she didn't demand a saving throw is beyond me.

Your friend is either greatly misinformed, or was just kidding.

I seriously doubt he is, however, that doesn't mean it's impossible that he was misinformed. He doesn't have any reason to lie either. He's in Europe, and I'm in Australia, so it doesn't affect either of us. I'll see if I can find out where he heard about it from.

First off, that is just stupid, to consider that playing DnD in America is illegal. Secondly, since the game is made in America, and since you are on this forum, you probably play DnD, I would say you could be affected, as the game would no doubt collapse worldwide if made illegal here. Thirdly, if America ever gets to that point, it will affect you as for things to get to that level, there would be rioting in the streets here ( rioters who go to prison don't pay taxes, and our tax money helps support the rest of the world). And finally.........it was probably in reference to the editorial in a recent issue where it was noted that playing DnD in some prisons in America is illegal.

hellbender

(the tax issue is not a political argument, just a point of fact)

With all due respect to your friend, that is just silly. I can only assume that he knows absolutely nothing about the US legal system. However, even a cursory reading of our constitution would reassure you that such a law could not stand.

The other reason it's silly is that it assumes that D&D is actually important enough in the grand scheme of things to grab the attention of our lawmakers.
