Perhaps your friend is thinking of that town in Brazil that illegalized role-playing games?

Does anyone else remeber that thread?

Hmm... I do, in fact, recall that thread.

So maybe his friend wasn't wrong. It really is illegal to play D&D in (a city in South) America. ;)

Or maybe there was a super-secret senate vote last night, banning the Order of Cthulhu from existence.

Since its a well known fact that all D&D gamers are willing pawns for the great old one to enter our world, the federal government at the insistence of some "department 7" group apparrently is pushing through legislation on the sujbect. It is feard that any gaming group large enough would create a pshychic echo, drawing the great cephlapod from his home in Ry'leh.

That would mean the coming of CHAOS! CHAOS!

We can't have that.

Better to ban all gaming.

I wonder if the ATF will be at GenCon.

(ahem)

Not sure where that came from...

Hmm...

What if roleplaying games WERE evil and WERE in fact calling in the servants of ancient evil gods?

That would make an interesting basis for a CoC game...

Hey if they were evil and calling the Great Old One's and the Elder Gods, would the CoC rulebook be listed as a forbidden tome? I wonder what the sanity loss would be? ;)

ridiculous?

for all of you who said it was ridiculous, please realize that several states and municipalities in this great country of ours have equally ridiculous laws, including those that could be interpreted as making d+d an illegal act.

in several states consentual oral sex is illegal, heck in georgia 'doggy-style' is illegal, as it is considered a form of sodomy, and a few states have made homosexuality illegal thru sodomy statutes.

be careful when judging the outlook of those outside the u.s. where laws are often MORE tolerant and liberal than here in our country.

in many municipalities it is illegal to own "representations(pictures, drawings..) of non-christian dieties" and many places have rules against any dice rolling activity(hard to believe but true!

Well, many of these silly laws were not actually passed by law makers but precedents set by courts.

Lord, leave it to Gamers. They find out that by playing RPG's gamers are actually serving the needs of greater evil powers and they decide to make an RPG out of it!

I love this business!

Why don't we answer the gentelman's question: No, D&D is not illegal in the U.S.

and just skip the political discussion that is bound to get heated and close this thread?

Sound good?

Good.

:D
