I'm Done with "I'm Done "Threads

If switching to a different game equates in some peoples minds to breaking off a relationship .. um, there are bigger problems to deal with than annoying someone with a thread on a geekboard

I didn't say it was the same, but it is similar. It' like someone who quits smoking, is trying to loss weight, or is unhappy with their job. People like to talk about that sort of thing.

I think it's indicitive of the rampant narcissism in America today...people think they are important and that their opinions matter. It's the illusion of empowerment.

YMMV :)

I agree with you Satori. While there is nothing wrong with disliking D&D and searching to discuss specific problems one would have with the game, I don't quite get the "I'm done" threads without these specific arguments, since they do not invite to any particular discussion beyond the "I (dis)agree" or worse, the pointless argumentation of elements relevant to particular tastes and inclinations regarding RPGs.

It's a bit like saying "I'm so done with yellow. I hate this color!" What can you say after that without looking like you're searching for a confrontation?

We’ve only just begun – to be done,
So many things to quit,
I’d write a parody if I had wit,
For parodies are fun.

And when we are all done, we cry,
Whining on message boards,
Pretending that we all are lords,
Although we don’t know why.

Now we come to the part that's called the bridge
Soon we’ll be done with this old song
We can get beer and munchies from the fridge
And wonder why this song is long
Together.

Now that we are all done we smile,
Try something else instead
Until it too makes us sick in the head
And then we will be done.

We've seen this cycle before, and it's nothing to be upset about. Lots of people want to play fantasy RPGs. D&D is the most obvious choice because everyone knows it, it's got high production values, it's everywhere. Eventually some people are bound to want something that caters to their tastes. But that doesn't mean those people don't belong at EN World, or that their threads detailing their experiences don't belong.

If you came to D&D, learned from D&D, but then moved on to something different, your experiences still shed light on the game, and you still belong at EN World.
