Ok, so I'm going to have the chance, This september, to go to the Big Apple, New York City!

In my country (Argentina), there are very little comic book shops and specialist gaming stores, so I am super exited.

My request to you is, of course, to ask if you could recomend some of these places to visit and purchase different gaming things, like dice, books, etc...

Any other tip is also welcome.

When are you there? If you google "Nerd NYC Recess", a fantastic group of NYC gamers are having a weekend con in the city in September. Highly recommended.

Hanley's and Forbidden Planet are both great shops to browse and find harder to find comics and cool collectibles. Hanley's has *some* gaming stuff, too - and does artist signings frequently. Midtown's Times Square Store (40th and 7th) is huge and a blast to browse. Staff are really friendly and love to help out tourists.

The Compleat Strategist on 33rd Street (maybe about a 15-20 minute walk from Midtown Comics) is a blast. Shelves just PILED with gaming stuff, new and old. Definitely worth visiting and spending an hour just poring over the shelves.

Enjoy! NYC's lucky to have some smaller establishments like this that are a fun alternative to just browsing an online store. Getting to meet like minded gamers and enthusiasts is a big draw.

Also note that when you go to Compleat Strategist on 33rd, you can go across the street to Papaya Dog and get 2 hotdogs with mustard & kraut, and eat them in the dingy little public space across the street from the store and gaze upon the Empire State Building.

It's not a great tourist experience, but that is what I do before I go play with the NY Redbox crew at Cafe 28.

Ramaster, the New York Red Box group Mr. Greengoat is always open to new players and often organizes games to fit around the schedule of visiting out-of-towners. If you want to drop in and kick it old-school - or even if you want to play one of these post-1981 RPGs that many of us are also interested in - send me an email at tavis@autarch.co with the dates you'll be around!

Another must-see for gamers is the Panorama of the Queens Museum of Art, which is a giant miniatures-scale layout of NYC. Much of it is under a glass floor so you can stomp around like Godzilla and daydream about superhero miniatures gaming. It's on the site of the 1964 World's Fair, which was featured in the original Men in Black movie, and makes a nice day trip along with the NY Hall of Science and lunch in Flushing's Chinatown two stops away on the 7 train.

Ok, update!

I’ll be staying in NYC from the 3rd of September to the 12th, probably West Harlem. I’m going to check as many stores suggested here as possible and post some feedback on them!

If anyone has a spot on a game for me, send me a PM and we can talk it out. It would mean a lot to me to be part of a game with people from so far away!
