Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. I was participating in the Iron DM tournament and needed to work on my submission.
Now, people ask a question, why have a Witch?
An answer to this question can be simple or complex depending on the recipient and what they are looking to get out of it.
- Semantics - some may prefer a name available, though I feel anything worth just a name change isn't worth a print.
- Mechanical Difference - some people may want rules/mechanics to be different than any other class, or at least different than any other magic class.
- Flavor Difference - some people want to experience a different flavor that perhaps they can not get by multi-classing or even playing one class.
- Other - or perhaps they have other reasons for a Witch class interest.
[sblock] My definition of a Witch is somebody who sacrificed something for their power to a higher being. Unlike the Warlock, the Witch gives something up to acquire her power, the most common conception throughout history for folklore is the soul, but the Witch has other options as well.
A Witch is also someone who is known to have great power, either to help or hinder a community. Some witches heal, cause abundance, good fortune, etc... while other witches may cause famine, disease, terrible drought, and bad fortune.
A Witch may also be supernatural in a sense, some turn into animals, some command hoards of animals, some make your hair stand up on ends, they can charm you, put you to sleep, cook concoctions and brews in a cauldron. Now, you can get this with multi-class of Druid and Wizard or Sorcerer. But then you miss out on a capstone ability! And why have that? Plus the stats dependent on casting are spread between 2 different stats, where as with 1 class it only has to be 1 stat.
Witches of renown power also belong to their very own special club, a Coven. And what is coven but a support group of other Witches to help enhance each other's powers for a mutual benefit. [/sblock]
I will post a link to a thread which will have a preview of the Witch class in it, so for those of you waiting for the finished product, you can view it when it's done and not peek into the thread.
