D&D 4E I'm really concerned about 4E

Out of curiosity, what level became "unmanageable" for you in 1e?

I didn't play 2e, and I didn't DM 1e, but I couldn't find a game to go to or above 10th level in 1e, and most ended before 7th level.

Because the game was unmanageable, or because you quit? Seriously, it astonishes me to hear anyone claim that 1e is less manageable at any level than 3e. One of the big pushes behind 4e seems to be to restore some manageability to the game.

Because the DMs quit, not me. I'm only assuming each had a reason; it was a while ago, and my memory has faded a bit.

With 3.5e, I've heard a lot more games going longer -- hell, I've seen them in the PbP forums.
