I'm sick to death of dwarves, elves, halflings, and gnomes!

You could always try out HârnWorld (www.warflail.com/harnlink) if you are not allergic to low magic and low tech settings based in a medieval world. There are elves and dwarves there but they are hiding/legends and are very few. In fact you could remove them altogether if you wanted and it wouldn't affect the world much (except for the history). And yes I am back again since I thought the last quarrel was childish and ugly (and I was to blame for some of that...). Otherwise you might want to check out Warhammer which, truly enough also has elves etc. but at a much lower level. I have heard some great stuff about Tekumel as well. :)

Talislanta? I think not. Taladas, yes.

Or were you Honging?

Oh no, not Honging, no! I just made a freudian slip. Taladas was what I meant. Of course, i had never heard of Talislanta until just now. And taladas... well, I've seen a map of taladas, and then I saw the saga rules system and then... well, then nothing really :)

My question to those that want to play something truly "exotic" is how do you do it?

I mean, playing a Lizard would be so foreign to a human thought process that I do not know how one would do it - after all you have spent X number of years having your brain wired to think like a human and suddenly you are a Sahougin for a couple of hours a week - I just don't see it being done (or at least with any sort of justice)

In my mind, that is why the Demi-Humans work, because while not strickly human, they are human enought that we can "act" the part with little to no difficulty.

[shameless plug]Have you checked out the Umbragia setting hosted on ENWorld? There are 19 races, 3 of which are human and 16 are non-standard. No elves, orcs, etc. anywhere:) Oh, and the downloads are free, too...

Ah, ha! That is the sort of thing I'm looking for! I love the quote from page 3 of "People of the Realms":

"You will not see a Tolkien Orc or an Elf that looks surprisingly like that of the Elfquest variety. In fact, you will not see an Orc or an Elf at all."

Yes!!!

Now that takes guts and imagination. Thank you a thousand times. I'm going to spend the rest of my vacation reading this very promising material. By the way, nsruf, did you have a hand in creating this world?

I do believe it's time for Oathbound and/or Planescape. :)

If you don't mind high magic/high fantasy based only loosely in the mideaval world, these guys are perfect.

Odly enough, the sentient telekinetic jellyfish was the sole reason I picked up that book and I love them like I love no other race. :)

Flumph lovers everywhere rejoice, for we have been vindicated at last! Our self-reinvention has proven quite successful...
