Immersed in Green Slime -- How do I Adjudicate This?

One of my characters voluntarily jumped into a large pit of Green Slime this evening and was covered. The stats are on top and my questions are below...

He has an 18 Constitution and 86 HP. He had a Fortitude Save of 12 (Base +8, Ability +4).

Right before he jumped in, he had taken 3 points of Con damage due to another effect. That dropped his Con to 15 (+2) and to 66 HP. (Fort save is now 10)

The Slime did 4 points of Con damage on the first round which dropped him to an 11 Con (+0) and 46 HP. (Fort save is now 8)

The next round the Slime did 3 additional points of Con damage, which took him to 8 (-1) and 36 HP. (Fort save is now 7)

This should be correct, right?

Basically I told the character that it would be two rounds to climb from the pit, get the oil, pour it, and then light it. The burning is after the second full round of Slime Damage.

My character then poured a gallon of oil over himself and torched up! This took him to -3 HP (by my calculations); alive but unconscious. (How much damage should this be?? Did I do it right?)

My questions are these:

How do you figure the Green Slime Damage to his equipment?

For example, he was wearing Full Plate Armor +1 and carries a number of weapons (2-bld-swrd +1/+1, MW Ranseur, Bastard Swrd +1, Spiked Chain, MW Shrt Swrd, 8 Javelins). He also wears a helm and shoulder set made of Blue Dragon Scales (I gave this a +1 to his AC). What about these items?

What about other magical gear? He wears Eyes of the Eagle, Ring of Mind Shielding, Amulet of Natural Armor +1, Gauntlets of Ogre Power +2, Ring of Prot. +1, and a Bag of Holding (which is full of other stuff!)

How about normal gear, like his backpack, rope, rations, glass vials, potions, ivory, and blankets/robes/cloth?

Thanks, if you can help me with this I woud greatly appreciate it!

To be honest, in my opinion, someone who jumps into a pit of green slime is dead unless they have someone standing by to cast a Fireball or Burning Hands straight away.

If he was covered, I simply don't see how he expects to manage any of that... how do you climb when your arms are melting? How do you find oil out from a pack when your face is being eaten off?

Even assuming that's possible, two rounds of Con damage sounds horribly generous. I'd put it at four, myself.

One when he jumps in.
Two while he's climbing out.
Three while he's retrieving the oil from the pack (MEA) and pouring it on himself (standard action).
Four while he lights it (Full Round action).

I gave him two rounds of Slime damage. He used a move to climb out and a move to retrieve the oil. Then the next round was a full round action to pour and light it. I reasoned that there was enough damage to kill the Slime by lighting the oil.

You are right about it basically eating off his face, but his gear must take damage too! I thought about a Charisma penalty, but that isn't how it is officially done.

That is what I want to do with the equipment; make it official. How do you apply damage to a weapon or armor? What about to all of the other items?

Well, green slime does 2d6 damage to metal every round, ignoring hardness. Over two rounds, that's an average of 14 damage.

A +1 sword has 11 hit points. All the other weapons you listed have less. The ranseur's haft might have survived (wood's hardness does count), but when you consider that he then set fire to it, I'd say it's toast.

All the weapons are gone.

The armor, unfortunately, does not have a hit point total given anywhere. But iron has 30 hp/inch of thickness. If you call full plate a quarter-inch thick (probably overstating - anyone know?) that's 7.5 hit points. Armor's gone.

The normal gear, I think it's safe to say, is charred goop. The rings, gauntlets, amulet, and bag... if they're exposed, I wouldn't hold out much hope for them. I doubt the slime would have much trouble eating a hole in the bag, and once it's pierced, all its contents are lost forever.

Out of curiosity... what the hell did he voluntarily jump into a pit full of green slime for?

I don't know why he jumped in green slime... but you'd be amazed what you can do with a Suggestion spell ;).

Oh. My. God.

"Why don't you take a dip in this nice, refreshing pool of slime?"

*casts Suggestion*

"No, go ahead and jump in - I know my slimes, and this stuff is totally harmless. It only disolves paper, so I'll stay out here and keep my spellbooks safe."
