Immersed in Green Slime -- How do I Adjudicate This?

Hmm, if it was a compulsion effect, you might want to be somewhat kind on destroying all of his gear...
or not! chuckle.

Make a distinction between Good Slime and Evil Slime. Good Slime does not really do anything except maybe make you disgusted. Evil Slime, on the other hand, tends to eat you, dissolve you, expand like there is no tomorrow, et cetera. A surefire way of distinguishing between Good Slime and Evil Slime is this:
When you see a pool of slime for the first time, ask yourself these questions. But before proceeding, take heed; Good or Evil, no slime at all is better.
1. Does it shiver, move about or show any other sign of having means of producing kinetic energy by itself? No? Then it is probably safe to assume that you are dealing with Good Slime.
2. Does it have countless mouths and bulging eyes? No? Good Slime.
3. Does it talk? No? Good Slime.
4. Do you feel threatened in any way by this slime? No? Good Slime.
5. Poke the slime with a pointy stick. Does it react? No? Good Slime.
6. Have any of your pets disappeared lately? No? If yes, can you see the bones of your pets inside the slime? Yes? Evil Slime.
7. Did the slime come from outer space? No? Good Slime.

The only "good slime" is a BIGGER slime!

I sure do miss those old 1e rules where we became psionically endowed in large clumps...

Well theres ectoplasmic oozes, which are kinda like slime, they have planeshift as an extraordinary abilty too.:)

I haven't seen Green Slime in any 3E books.. and I missed this whole "green slime" thing in 2nd edition.

Is green slime mentioned in any 3E books at all? Which ones?

I doubt the slime would have much trouble eating a hole in the bag, and once it's pierced, all its contents are lost forever.

Green Slime is Not To Be Trifled With.

Out of curiosity... what the hell did he voluntarily jump into a pit full of green slime for?

-Hyp.

About the Bag of Holding, is that a special rule, that once it is ruined, its contents are gone forever? Cool....

As for the reasons why he volunteered, it was a combination of misinformation and greed.

In the RttToEE adventure by Monte Cook, there is a temple devoted to water. On a platform are three pools, one is clear (acid), one is black (curse), and one is GREEN.

At a point right before the platform, my characters encountered a water naga that voiced disapproval of the affairs of the four elemental temples. She then went on to tell the party that in exchange for a prized magic item (mainly the Sword of Water that is affiliated with the temple) that she would tell them the secrets of the area.

She misinformed them about a few things then told them by jumping in the pools and then completely immersing yourself in them, one right after the other, that you would get "enhancsssementssss to Ssssstrength and Ssssspeed."

The character who jumped in, bought it hook, line, and sinker (ba-ba-bum!). He is a psi warrior who uses some infernal power to walk on water. He strolls up to a quite empty temple (everyone is underneath waiting to suprise) and he procedes to jump in the Black pool (the first damage) and then right into the Green "making sure to cover myself completely".

I suppose you could say that he was under a compulsion effect, I do have a way with my group.... but truth be told, circumstance played that the greedy guy went first...

Well, I hope he learns this lesson.

Slime HPs? and Oil Damage in Quantity?

Let me ask another question:

How much damage does it take to destroy Slime?

It doesn't give a clear description.... Just extreme heat and cold.

Does it have HPs?

My guy was about to pour a whole small barrel of oil over his head... and I convinced him (I was slightly nice) that it WOULD be overkill... I reasoned that a small barrel would hold 4 gallons... what do you think?

Another question:

How much damage does a gallon of oil, not alchemist's fire, do?

Yes. A Book isn't unless it mentions green slime.

You'll find more information about green slime in the 3E DMG, page 117, slimes are HAZARDS.

You can't truly destroy green slime... Unless you are a dwarf ;)

If I understand green slime correctly, the result of a dive
should simply be a bit of added mass to the gloop.

Green Slime: CR 4; A single patch of green slime deals 1d6 points of temporary Constitution damage per round while it devours flesh. On the first round of contact, the slime can be scraped off a creature (most likely destroying the scraping device), but after that it must be frozen, burned, or cut away (applying damage to the victim as well). Extreme cold or heat, sunlight, or a remove disease spell destroys a patch of green slime. Against wood or metal, green slime deals 2d6 points of damage per round, ignoring metal's hardness but not that of wood. It does not harm stone.

This is for a small "patch" of slime. Full immersion should do
more. Let's say 4d6 per round.

Round 1: Your party sees you dive in and sees bubbles (-4d6Con)
Round 2: More bubbles (-4d6Con)
Round 3: No more bubbles...

I think you're right, but I'm trying to give the guy a little break. It could of course go anyway I want it, but I'm just going to stick to the rules here.

He's definitely going to have a tough time with no gear at what some call a "boss encounter" with the temple highups....

Death comes for him in more than one form.

As for the damage a green slime can take, I looked it up in an old book (it was a creature before) and they used to take 2 HD worth of damage, so 4-16 (I ignored 1's). They appeared in colonies of 1 to 6 slimes, but in this case, where it is an effect of being in the temple, I would say that there was more than 1 in the pit.

Each should do a certain amount of damage.

But, like I said, I'm giving the guy a break. I hope the revision covers this topic. It is a strange hazard, I liked it better with HP's attributed to it.
