Immersed in Lava - Have you ever seen it?

I had my PC thrown into a lava puddle at the bottom of a 20' pit. Stupid evil cleric was a good deal stronger than he looked... Very fatal and the party was a little gutted - I was carrying a good deal of the cash.

At Origins a few years ago my red dragon did a quickened breath weapon on the halfling paladin, snatched him, and dove into a lava lake.

I still feel slightly guilty, because immediately afterwards the marshall came by and called time on the slot.

No, I've never used it, but you've just given me inspiration to.

Forget pools of lava, this is inspiration to go look up the rules in question and use them to make lava elementals that engulf their victims.

technically, lava is supposed to be so hot that you can't approach it within some number of feet. Saw it on a volcano show on TV.


Granted, heroes can do lots of things, but in general, you can't just stand next to the flowing volcano river and chat it up with the BBEG. It's too darn hot and you'd likely catch fire.

Whatever you do, don't get your legs chopped off while jumping over a lava river. You'll get stuck on the lava-river bank, catch on fire, and, well, you know the story.

Yeah, I have a problem with the idea that a PC can walk away from falling in lava if he doesn't have magical protection of some sort. I'm gonna have to have a look at those rules, just out of curiosity.
