Immune to magic?

Multiple golems and a couple other creatures are immune to magic. What limitations are there? Is it immune to only magic directly aimed at it? Or is it immune to are of effect damage such as a fireball? Please clerify this.

It's detailed pretty thoroughly in their Monster Manual entry. For golems, they're basically immune to any spell that allows Spell Resistance, except for a handful of spells or energy types (it differs for each type of golem), which have atypical results when applied to golems.

Spells which do not allow SR are generally unaffected by spell immunity - so for instance, the Orb spells from Complete Arcane are generally effective against golems.
