Improved psionic crystal companion

I really would like to have an improved crystal, somewhat along the lines of an improved familiar (imp, p-dragon, elemental, ect) - any ideas on how/what to do? Is there a crystalline creature template, perhaps, so my crystal can be 'all that he can be', or perhaps cool stone/crystal critters?

You coul always try using some of the other "Improved Familiars" that might fit into the idea of a psionic crystal.

Since the crystal is defined as follows (from SRD): "A psicrystal is a fragment of a psionic character’s personality, brought into physical form and a semblance of life (via the Psicrystal Affinity feat). A psicrystal appears as a crystalline construct about the size of a human hand."

This would lead me to believe that you could alter any form of similar exisiting improved familiar to work in the same manner.

For example a Blade Guardian Construct (from Completer Warrior) made of crystal rather than metal.

Another easy switch would be instead of the standard Small Earth Elemental from the DMG, switch it to a Small Crysmal (XPH).

I really like this idea. Just thinking about appearance and not mechanics yet, I can imagine the crystal drawing rocks into itself to appear somewhat like a small earth elemental. . . weaving crystal filaments of solidified thought into chunks of stone as it draws them around it.

For mechanics, I think Khaalis has the right idea. Take an existing improved familiar as a starting base, change its form to be whatever you like, and then tweak its abilities to reflect its personality shard.

If you want to keep balance, but don´t want to copy the wizard´s improved familiar, you could make a feat that allows the psicrystal to grow a psionic contruct, of the same CR as the regular improved familiars, around itself at will. (or maybe a stronger construct, but a limited number of times per day)
