In need of a blessing.

My PC's are going to be given a blessing by a friendly water nymph.
She's a nordic nymph (a Fossergrim to be precise) and she charges the (all dwarven) PC's a song to use the ford across her stream. Pleased by their singing she is going to give them a blessing also in the form of a song. ("A song for a song.")

So far so good. But I need 2 things. A short stanza that sounds good and an actual effect for the blessing.

If it's any help the dwarves are off to the hall of the Frost Giant Jarl, where they hope to ask for guest-right and do a little spying. So a lot of emphasis on social interaction. There will be a couple of enemies at the court of the Jarl (ie: specific dislike of the PCs as opposed to the general dwarf-hating common to giants.) As a final twist, while at the court they will be accused of murdering a relative of the Jarl and be forced to pay wereguild (blood gold.) This will be in the form of a quest that leads to "certain doom" in the nest of the biggest Roc in the MM.

Any suggestions? My creative well is coming up dry.

Minor blessings from the four elements:
- Fire blessing: protection from energy (cold), caster level 6
- Air blessing: feather fall, caster level 6
- Water blessing: purify food & drink, caster level 6
- Earth blessing: stone shape, caster level 6

Each effect occurs involuntarily, and does not therefore require an action on the party's part to activate. The Fire blessing, for example, could be triggered when the party is about to take a significant amount of cold damage -- flames would dance around them, and they'd feel the spell take effect. (Imagine that each effect is a Readied Action by an elemental who is secretly watching.)

Deciding when to use feather fall will be obvious; deciding when to use stone shape could be troublesome. Maybe that one should be replaced.

Anyway, a song: the Four Winds could be a good theme, as could the elements (obviously).

How many players are there? If there are four, maybe give each player one card, telling him to keep the effect a secret from the other players, but use it at the first good opportunity.

Cheers, -- N

Hey Nifft

Thanks for that. I like the card idea and the involuntary idea. Both could have a lot of potential in the adventure. And the elements is too perfect. Especially a feather fall for someone who might be having to "abandon roc" at some point later.

thanks again.
