In Praise of Stuff that Doesn't Get Praised Enough

Drinking while playing DnD doesn't get nearly enough praise. It's the kryptonite for rules lawyers ( like me ) and RP-guys ( like me ) allowing a far looser game.

Gary Gygax, for being such a consumate geek about so many things (from polearms to mythological attributes of gems) and writing it all up into a game.

I'd even narrow it down to: polearms! One of the only things I miss from my high school days is the ridiculously huge list of polearms. It is a marvel that they managed to give slightly different combinations of damage, weight, and initiative modifiers to each of them....

1) The artists that inspire me. David Sutherland III, you get a special shout-out to the heavens where you reside.

2) Good editors (and good layout dudes too!).

3) FLGS that are actually friendly. I appreciate you guys, you love the hobby and put your heart into helping others to love it too.

Rolling a '1'.

It rarely receives praise, in fact just the opposite. But that humble little '1' reminds you that no matter how powerful you are, sometimes things won't go the way you've planned.

I couldn't possibly count the number of plots that have emerged from someone rolling a '1' at just the right (or wrong) time and sending everything spiraling into chaos.

Plus the results can often lead to classic humorous stories that people will be telling years from now.

Fantasy maps where the cartographer draws a world where rivers flow the way they do in the real world, and mountain ranges that give some sense of plate tectonics in action.

Any piece of art, music, fiction or even history that inspires a good campaign or PC.

It doesn't matter what quality the source material was if the derived RPG material is awesome.

Having a community of like-minded people to talk with. Even when you disagree it's ok, because how fun would it be if everyone always agreed about everything?

I appreciate people who get my jokes, without me having to explain them...

:p

Is this thing on? :heh:

...I know you're out there... :erm:

...I can hear you breathing. :.-(

Man, you guys are worse than my players... ;) I get no respect.
