In Praise of Stuff that Doesn't Get Praised Enough

AD&D 2E: It may be the red-headed stepchild of D&D editions, but it was the edition I cut my teeth with...and the settings were made of awesome and win.

Rules.

Yes, they can be a burden, or overused, or over-relied-upon, but without them, it's just a glorified game of "Mother May I?" with elves. Rules give you autonomy and freedom, when used in the right moderation.

Quality moderation!

I was in another thread, thinking "90% of this thread is great, and the rest is really ticking me off."

When a moderator broke in and said, and here I paraphrase,

Dear Pete Storm, all the people that have been ticking you off have been banned from this thread. Have a nice day, ENWorld moderator...

Or something like that. Anyway, it worked for me!

PS

A good place to play. I've played in a lot of places, from smelly basements to comfy living rooms. And as a college student, it was very hard to offer my cramped and usually hot dorm room, which frequently had a laughably small coffee table to support the visuals. As a recently married man, I can't wait to open my own apartment to guests, especially those playing D&D.
