C. N. Yang, a 1957 Nobel laureate in physics, passed away Oct 18 at the age of 103. His prize was for the theoretical proposal that the weak nuclear force violates parity (reflection symmetry), which was confirmed experimentally in early 1957. He was also known for developing the structure of physical theories that describe the nuclear forces; no fewer than 10 other Nobel laureates cited the importance of Yang's work for their prize-winning research.
