Wow, I'm under the weather and not double checking sources. Apparently it's making the rounds in news apps again, probably due to the upcoming RDJ Dr. Doom. Thanks, I'll delete!

Several years ago, I reported a death in one of these threads. As I did so, I remember thinking that I thought that person had already passed. But, oh well.

Shortly after I did so, another ENWorlder pointed out that person had died the previous year…by linking to my post here announcing it.

This was a kind post. The world needs more of this.
 






Charles Shay died at 101 a couple days ago. He was a Native American who served in WW2 and the Korean War as an Army medic. He was part of the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach, earning the Silver Star for helping to save drowning soldiers under fire. He was later a POW for over a year until liberated by Allied forces. France honored him with a Legion of Merit award in 2007.

Not sure when this picture was taken, but the Rangers in the back go over to reenact climbing the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc every 5 years.
