In Search of the Best Module Ever

Tormalicus

First Post
I'm looking for opinions here.

What is the best module ever produced by TSR? 1st ed, 2nd ed, original D&D, doesn't matter. Or, is there a website anyone knows about that rates them?

In advance.....thanks.

I'd have to agree. I ran some "classics" for my group over the years that they hated - "Whattya mean you hate this adventure? ... It's Tomb of Horrors!! Everyone's supposed to love it!!" ;)

And I ran some throwaway adventures that ended up being some of the most memorable games I've participated in...

While I agree the players make the module, I must say that the one TSR produced module that tops my favorite list is B10 - Night's Dark Terror. Cool scenarios, great bad guys, fun NPCs, an engaging storyline, and awesome maps.

mmm, difficult I have two

1) G/D/Q Series - A classic, but more of a campaign rather than a module.

2) FR0 - Treasure hunt (1e). Characters start of without any classes, it is their actions during the adventure that determine what classes they become.

1st place - Castle Amber
2nd place - Where Chaos Reigns
3rd place - Twilight Calling
4th place - Isle of Dread

In that case some of my favorites:

  • S1 Tomb of Horrors (my guys HATED it, but I loved it ;))
  • G3 Hall of the Fire Giant King[*]D1-3 Descent into the Depths of the Earth/Shrine of the Kuo-Toa/Vault of the Drow[*]Q1 Queen of the Demonweb Pits[*]FRQ1 Haunted Halls of Eveningstar
  • The "I" Desert of Desolation series
  • S4 Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth[*]Dead Gods
  • The "A" Slaver series
