Increasing kukri size and damage

Do you think it would be ok to increase the size of the kukri from Tiny to Small and its damage from 1d4 to 1d6 (as per the rules in the DMG about weapon sizes)? Would this result in a balanced weapon?

The reason I want to do this is because I think that most kukris (the ones I've seen, anyway) seem to fall into the Small size range anyway.

Absolutely. This is equivalent to a scimitar, but one size smaller and exotic rather than martial (thus costing anyone a feat to use). I don't see any balance problems.

Flip side-I think the kukri should be a Small Martial weapon. But that belongs in another forum ...

Oh, and here I go again with another addendum. Bump the size once more and you get a Medium Exotic weapon doing 1d8 with an 18-20/x2 critical. I (and many others) use this set of stats for a weapon in the bastard sword/dwarven waraxe vein for the 'kukri-scimitar-falchion' series, where a Medium character can use it two-handed as a Martial weapon. Makes a much better katana than the 'masterwork bastard sword' suggested in the DMG ...

Or that's the Elven Thinblade as presented in one of the Dragon magazines. It's finessible, too.

In the "sleeper hit" that is Thee Compleat Librum ov Gar'Udok's Necromantic Artes, I included a sidebar for the Khukuri (also known as the Kukri, depends where you pick it up).

I didn't stick straight to the size conversion from the Kukri, but aimed at some game balance. (Otherwise, if a small Kukri deals 1d6, then a medium deals 1d8 and a large would deal 2d6 - which is a boatload of damage witht he crit stats on the kukri).

Here is the sidebar, from the text of Necromancer's Legacy, the print edition of Thee Compleat Librum ov Gar'Udok's Necromantic Artes.

The Khukuri
(exotic weapon)

Khukuri are curved, bladed weapons based on the most primitive “hooked” swords. Because of the curvature and the heavy head, a Khukuri chops with exceptional strength, dealing significant damage when aimed properly. Full decapitations are not unknown using these weapons. Khukuri come in three sizes in game terms: Small blades (15 inches long), Medium blades (21 inches long) and the enormous 36 inch Large blade. All are exotic weapons.

Small Khukuri, 1d4 damage, critical range: 19-20/x3
Medium Khukuri, 1d6 damage, critical range: 19-20/x3
Large Khukuri, 2d4 damage, critical range: 19-20/x3
