Indian Adventures?

Dungeon issue 86 had an indian inspired adventure by Rich Baker called Rana Mor. It's available via PDF from Paizo for $4.95.

I'd consider using it as a campaign starter, and building the rest as you go.

Here's the adventure description.

Rana Mor
by Rich Baker
Survive the perils of a fallen temple to capture the jungle's greatest prize: the elusive Rain Tiger. A D&D adventure for 6th-level PCs but adaptable for levels 3–10.

Thanks -- I have that issue and had completely forgotten about that adventure!

It should be pointed out that Dog Souls Folkloric line, of which Sahashra is a part, was never intended to be "full fledged" campaign settings in and of themselves, at least not as such. Rather they are intended to be areas that could be found in any DnD campaign world. Places that your PCs might wander into while adventuring. Thus no effort was made on any of them to create setting specific classes nor even adapt standard DnD classes to them. There are, however, setting specific races and some creatrues; I hapend to know that a forthcoming book will deal with religion in more detail, including a few Prestige Classes, as well. There is also an adventure that serves as a good introduction to the setting.

Thanks for mentioning this, Stormborn. There is indeed a Religion of Sahasra book forthcoming. Already available are a treasures book, an adventure, and a map pack.

Stormborn is also correct that these are intended to be placed in your current campaign. The religion book has some PrCs and a base class in it.

The Folkloric series was at first meant to be several "mini-settings" that folks could drop into their game. Slowly we've been expanding the most popular ones because apparently, people have said they want MORE. :) Which is nice to hear, I just wish I'd have realized that... earlier.

The first setting on schedule for expansion/refurbishment is Niflheim, our Norse setting. After that, Sahasra will be attended to, and like Rafael said there are two books on religion in the works right now.

Yes, I just did a piece on Jainism that will hopefully be included in the product.

Hi,

I've just come back from a fantastic week long trip to India, visiting the "Golden Triangle" of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur and feel inspired to run a campaign or long adventure set in fantasy India or an India-inspired setting. Are there any fully fledged India-style settings out there? I'm looking for something along the lines of Nyambe.

I'm aware of Mindshadows from Green Ronin but am unsure what it contains, and am wondering if it's more of a psionic setting than an Indian one. The only other stuff I can think of is a web enhancement for Oriental Adventures (Mahasarpa?) and a few articles in Dragon about arms & armour, as well as the Indian mythos in the original Deities & Demigods. What else is out there, old or new?

Cheers

Ravenloft has an island domain that is Indian based. I'm not sure if it shows up in the 3e materials but there is a 2e module set there, its cover has a rakshsasa on it (I can't remember the name off the top of my head). I ran it to convert my campaign from 2e to 3e and it worked well with a lot of modification (I thought the disguised white girl guide was a foolish element to include so the party made do with local priestesses and thieves).

Good call! Just dug out my 2e Ravenloft boxed set. There's a domain called Sri Raji which is briefly described in the book. One of the cards included depicts Arijani's Temple.

There's quite a bit of stuff scattered around when you start to look for it.

Cheers

I think the voyage of the princess ark boxed set and certain dragon articles also detail an indian country in the Known World Mystara Campaign. Basic/Rules Cyclopedia D&D.

If you want to get an idea on how some of the fighting forms may have looked like, I found this to be a treasure trove:

http://www.kalaripayattu.org/movie.htm

It would be accurate to allow monks in an Indian setting without having to really file off the serial numbers or play "Guess the name!!!". According to kalari tradition, it was a kalari master who went to China and founded Shaolin Temple. India, or Indian settings would be a good method to allow introduction of a monk class into more western settings, like Forgotten Realms via Semphar, Var the Golden, etc.
