infravision: how do one see?

In 2e the standard rule was infravision 'allows characters to see in the dark.' It was magical and so only worked out to 60 feet. There was an optional rule to make infravision an infrared spectrum vision but we always used the standard rule to avoid just those questions about undead, etc.

so, by this rule, if i was able to see something in day light, i could see the same thing with infravision (but with 60 feet reach)?

Yes, it would allow you to see things in the dark as if it were daylight.

Given that at the time I was in the service and pretty much everybody in the group used FLIR fairly extensively, it was pretty natural to just say "infravision works like FLIR" and have everybody on the same page for what could and couldn't be seen. Which is funny cause what turned out to be a complication in other groups was clarifying then and there.
