Initiative Boards?

http://www.readyandwaiting.biz/products.htm has some initaitive boards, a basic and a deluxe.

I'm using the deluxe right now with spells and palce holders. Handles wet erase so far and I'll be testing dry erase tomorrow at my Shackled City game.

Anyone use anything this like before? Prior to this, I've used a standard dry erase board numbered 1-30 and the Game Mechanics Initiative Cards.

Haven't used something quite like that, but we did use to number our own initiatives in a similar manner.

I've just used a stack of 5"x8" file cards with character, NPCs and monsters each having a card and then putting them in order for each combat. Simple and cheap, but not giving as many features as using these predesigned cards. Trickiest thing is usually tracking the life of spells with a duration (fog, light, spiritual weapon, etc).

we use a 10 X 14 or so dry erase board that holds magnetic strips. Our characters all have labels stuck to strips of flexible magnets and we have 3 extra marked enemy 1, enemy 2 so forth. It works well. If somebaody delayes they get pulled off to one side and if they ready they get pulled off center of the column of names.

I need to design a way to keep track of rounds. Probably a larger magnetic label since it came with two round magnets that could be used for tracking.

I don't really use something like that. For really, really big combats, I just use scrap paper to write down some notes. :)

We use a dowel mounted on a wooden stand. The dowel is the right size so you can slip little pieces of PVC pipe onto it. We cut the PVC pieces into rings, and then cut each ring so it looks like a C allowing us to snap the ring on and off without having to slide it down over the top.

We write our names on the PVC pipe and use those to show when we act.

We do this because the 3x5 card thing only works for one person. It's nice to be able to look at something in the center of the table and everyone can see when everyone's going to go.

Our playing area is covered with a sheet of transparent plastic, and we just write on it with erasable markers, setting up initiative lists on the fly, tracking spell durations etc.
