Inn income

"Ill Gotten Gains", a Dragon #268 article, has the rules for running an inn. *Far* better than the lame Profession rules in the PHB if your player wants to have some actual input and make decisions in the running of the inn. This article also allows for modification to add advanced scenarios for particularly enterprising characters.

Thanks to everyone who responded!

I'll probably be able to whip up something, but i'd sure like to see that Dragon article! I went on the Wizards site, but the link to said article leads me back to the main Dragon page... If anyone knows how to fix this... the link is

Maybe a little more info is in order. This campaign starts as a 9th level FR one. The inn will probably be used for magical research funding. Potions will be made by the cohort of the proprietor of the inn.

The Profession skill is ok, but gives the salary for the innkeeper, which doesnt represent the profits made by the inn in question. There are many, many factors that come into play in determining the inn profits (i don't want to get into the whole income vs expenses problem) and the die roll that will be made will represent the fluctuation in said profits.

Now, the characters will use the inn as the base of operation for their thieve's guild (did i mention the campaign was for evil characters?), but there probably won't be many adventures associated with the inn per se, until the authorities discover the guild and burn the inn down (come to think of it, a competitor could do the same thing).

Unless i can get my hands on the dragon article, i'll probably be using similar to Hand of Evil's method, but i'll probably use 2d10 rather than 1d20... I'd like to thank everyone again, and wish you happy gaming!
