My guess for the avalanche cover is Arthur and Mordred in the background with a prominent Morgan le fay in a "spell casting" pose. I'm betting the artist will make sure she does not incur arcane failure penalties.

My 2 cents.

If I want to "run" a set of kingdoms, I'll play the Might and Magic PC game, but that's just me. When I was in a Spelljammer group, I was the only guy bored to tears with all of the logistics of making a successful cargo run and improving the ship. It's not "bad", just not my style.

I'd rather have alternate rules magic and stuff. This is where d20 is making money off me. I a few games and I plan to get a lot more so I can have different ways to run the game and tweak it to the campaign I want to run.

Actually, maybe doing both would be the best idea. A sourcebook that revolves around mass combat and stronghold building rules could include a sizeable portion devoted to an sample setting, kind of like GH is considered the baseline D&D world. Maybe all your sample strongholds and mass combat rules could use references to your Arthurian campaign setting book. They'd be complements to each other, and that could help you get past resistance from publishers about putting out another campaign setting.

I would think that you could put out the stronghold book (with Arthurian teasers) first, kind of like Sword & Sorcery did with the Creature Collection and Relics & Rituals. The stronghold book could help drum up interest for campaign setting's later publication. You could also put a few alternate rules in the stronghold book if you found room, but for me personally, I always appreciate d20 publishers who do not make their alternate rules supersede the Player's Handbook. Having "variants" is the way to go for alternate magic, et. al at this point.

Again just my two cents ,

Actually, great idea!! I really wanted to get my Avalon sourcebook, too. Thanks, man.

Oh, there was one other thing...

Cyronax, or anyone who reads this, please go to the "Plots and Places" section, and read my "Post-Arthurian Avalon" thread. Then, when you have read all that stuff about my version of Avalon, please tell me if you think that'll sell as well as if I just had the campaign setting in the middle of Arthur's reign.

Please??:(

Hey always glad to help out. I hope you're plans to publish both sourcebooks works out. I just went to check out your Tainted Avalon Plot, and it looked really cool! I'll post a more detailed opinion in that thread when I get the time to read through all of the posts. As of now, I'm still knee deep in end of the semester papers and presentations.

Take it easy,

Up until a few weeks ago, adding a hyperlink was unknown to me, but I thought I'd make the trip to Tainted Avalon a bit easier for the interested.

I'd really like to see mass-combat rules. I'd imagine that the addition of magic would add a whole new dimension to warfare; as a cloudkill spell could wipe out an entire squad of soldiers, or a flying wizard could rain fireballs on the town below. D&D mass-combat rules would be interesting indeed.

Thankyouverymuch. I started dreaming this up when I was 11 and had read Tolkien for the first time. This is a very old, much beloved setting for me.

I actually have a novel in the works (2 Chapters done so far) set in Tainted Avalon. It revolves around the Heir of Nwren Nherianthir and the attempt to establish a new order in Avalon.

Anyways, thanks for posting the link. I've already sent off an email to RangerWickett, telling him of my ideas for a Stronghold guide and a Tainted Avalon sourcebook later on...
