Input needed on a staff

Hey guys,

I'm working on designing a staff for my character, and I thought maybe you guys would have some good ideas.

The character is a 13th level Sorcerer with the following spells:

1: Expeditious Retreat, Feather Fall, Magic Missile, Ray of Enfeeb., Shield
2: Cold Snap, Invis, Melf's, Mirror Image, Phantom's Howl
3: Dispel Magic, Fly, Haste, Manaspear
4: Dim. Door, Enervation, Phant. Killer, Sonic Orb
5: Greater Shadow Conj, Hold Monster, Troll's Blood
6: Circle of Death, Disintegrate

So far, for the staff I was thinking of having it be a darkwood staff with a ruby set in the top. Then, for spells:

Grimwald's Greymantle (FRCS): 1 charge
Magic Jar: 2 charges (using the ruby as the jar)
Teleport: 2 charges

With a CL of 9, that would cost around 23k. Upper limit is like 70k.

So, any cool ideas? I'll probably add a deflection bonus too.

Well, so far I have the spells as above, and that staff acts as a Quarterstaff of Defending +2, and gives a +2 luck bonus to saves. But, I feel like for such an expensive staff, I should have a better spell selection.

Don't the rules for staffs suggest that they need to be collected together around a "theme" of some kind? At first glance it looks like you have a random bag of powers in the staff, from different schools even!

Also, I wonder whether the caster level would be 10th rather than 9th because you are a sorcerer? I don't suppose there is anything that stops you creating something at a lower caster level than your current level, but can a spell be put into a staff at a lower caster level than the minimum *you* need to be to cast it? I don't know about that.

Cheers

Well, most of the staffs do have a theme, but the Staff of Power, for instance, has differing schools.

Also, my character won't be making this, it's a gift from his great-grandfather.

It will also be a Quarterstaff of Defending +2. Got any ideas for a cool secondary power, like the Changestaff, or Staff of Power, etc?

If I wanted to be able to disappear my staff on command, what would you recommend?

It can either be, sending it to an extradimensional space where I can call it back from on command, or somehow meld it into my body, and be able to unmeld it on command? Ideas?

Okay, so here it is: (still open to suggestions though)

Balestaff

This staff allows use of the following spells:

Doomwail (1 charge)
Grimwald's Greymantle (1 charge)
Magic Jar (1 charge)
Shadow Evocation (2 charges)

Further, the staff may be used as a weapon, functioning as a Quarterstaff of Defending +2. The Balestaff may be dismissed to an extradimensional space or summoned from the extradimensional space at will as a free action.

Wheeee!
