Int score

Actually, a "C" is average so a "B" is above average :)

You haven't been in high school lately, have you?

[grumble]Heaven forbid we hurt anyone's self-esteem by labeling them as 'average'.[/grumble]

example of a 9 intelligence:

M0R013: I don't see why you need to be so cruel to us just because we may not be as well off as you...
Curt339: You Geeks need to stop drelling on money

"curt" who accused me of drelling on money (despite my argument THAT IT IS NOT A     ING WORD (and when I said so he insisted "drelling" was a word and that I should check a dictionary(which I did do, just to be sure. In case Webster is wrong, the word doesn't exist.))) later described himself as Classy, Witty and Smart, which shows he must also have a low sanity score...

Uh, sorry, what was this thread about???

THe old rules (1E I think) used to say multiply your INT score by 10 to get your characters IQ.

A 90 IQ is pretty average.

I wouldn't worry about someone's lack of intelligence showing through their speech patterns until you get down into the 70-80 range.

I would say a 7-8 Intellegence becomes apparent though normal conversation.

Int * 10 != IQ

If it did a 13+ Int would fall into the top 2% of the population, now just looking at how 3d6 fall this seems a tad flawed. (Assuming a standard Mensa IQ test where 130 = top 2%. So, no, I'm not saying your super Intelligent because of an IQ test of X, cut offs based on IQ tests vary amazingly.)

A little OT, but this reminds me of a dwarf I used to play with an INT 3. He only spoke Dwarvish, and nobody else did, so communication was limited, at best. I played him sort of like a dog. Well, a dog that drank a lot and broke furniture over people's heads. Because I couldn't really communicate with the other party members, I didn't have to worry about how intelligent my speech sounded.

That guy was my powergaming revenge. I mostly DM, and I had a player who tended to wander off to watch naughty movies whenever play lagged for more than 30 seconds. He decided to try his hand at DM. I know it's petty, but I min/maxed this guy brutally, and took out most of his villains in short order. That campaign ended fairly quickly when the frustrated ref tossed a dragon at us (we were 2nd then). He was a little more appreciative of my efforts as ref, though.

There's a slight difference - IQ 150 is top 1%, equivalent to Int 17 on 3d6 - ie the curver is broader, and IQ 100 would be Int 10.5, but it's pretty close, Int 9 is very close to IQ 90 according to EGG's approach.

This debate came about in a strange way. We were discussing one of the player characters and found that he had a 9 INT and I had been playing NeverWinter Nights and that is were I saw the speech issue with a 9 INT...I had stated that I thought it was in the Players Handbook. I have since informed the group that I was wrong. Just looking for feedback here.

I found a MWN-module that had "moron-speach" already for characters with less Int than 12. It made it completely unplayable, ironically it was a Sunless Citadel-conversion.

I guess this happens in NWN a lot just because the module maker _can_. It will become less common I wager since writing dialogues in NWN is a lot of work as it is without having to rewrite everything to suit the occasional dumb barbarian.

Apparently my IQ is 175 or something like that and infact people have trouble understanding me!

Its a combination of a slight lisp and a habit of utilising large words and complex sentence structures (and a love of verbose and rendundant circumlocation in order to get to the point...:))

Anyway if they are going to enforce moron-speak for low Int (and 9 is not low) then they should also enforce Geek-speak for high ints.
