Inteligent Weapons in your campaigns ?

I'll have a few evil ones Rashak Mani. I just have to get through the 5 gods. So far 2 down 3 to go. Then I'll get to Chardun, Belsameth and Vangal. I think people will enjoy the bloodthirsty nature of Belsameth's for sheer evil intent with "The Liar's Blade"

My players, in one game, successfully recovered the Vorpal Scimitar "Judgement of the Sultan."

Judgement was LE, and devoted to the task of finding a worthy puppet to put on the throne of the old empire. He was also a smooth talker, and convinced the party that he was helping them out of enlightened self-interest, not malice. And they wound up giving him to the party thief, who had been raised by a cult of holy assassins and was the weakest willed in the group. After the role-playing was done, Judgement had that character pretty much wrapped around his pommel, so to speak...

And the weird bit was, every time the players started to realize how dangerous Judgement was, he (I) managed to talk them out of it.
 

I haven't used intelligent weapons yet IMC, but will

When a character consistently treats a (normal, usually) weapon as something special (Forged it personally; talks to it, as in "Andaris, you were my father's blade. Tonight you shall taste the flesh of his murderer"; or otherwise "makes it feel special" throughtout the course of the campaign), and uses the weapon to accomplishe something significant or extraordinary, it has the chance to be "promoted"

Thus, a 3rd level character who single handedly defeats a creature that's out of his league while using his favorite-to-the point-of-exclusivity battle axe, might find that as a result, his axe has become a +1 weapon.

Later on, as deeds become more heroic, and if he continues using the axe, other qualities appropriate to his deeds might be added (Bane: Giants, etc.), and eventually intelligence.
 

Thats pretty much how Earthdawn Magical Weapons were supposed to grow... the Weapon grows with its owner Legend and fantastics deeds. Much better than with how much gold he is able to convert into magic in his sword !!

In a 2nd ed, I ran a campaign where one of the players was playing the Eternal Champion style doomed character, Logan Drakeson, who was a half-iron dragon. He went through White Plume Mountain and gained Black Razor. Much mayhame, especially since he didn't like using it and the ego bult up often.
 

In a Birthright game I played in I had an intelligent bastard sword. It was cool for like the first half of the game, but instead of allowing me to take the blood of others in those duel thingies, it kept it, becoming stronger. At first, I didn't mind, until it started hunting down friends and allies on its own and killing them to become stronger. Eventually, I became a puppet to the sword.
It was interesting to be sure... of course, my dump stat is almost always wisdom ( crazy is cool! ), so I got to act all possessed and slightly neurotic and stuff.

At the end, it destroyed my poor character and rose up to be a god ( I need a t-shirt: "My sword ascended to godhood and all I got was this lousy t-shirt." ) :(

I'll get the sword back one day and teach it a lesson! ( but I guess that would be another campaign )
 

Well, I've played in or dmed lots of games with intelligent magic items, but my favorite has to have been Nick.

Now, this was around 1986 so I don't really remember all the details too well; but Nick was an intelligent shapechanging item with, like, four (?) or so forms. Each form had a different name, personality, and abilities. There was the spear that could fly (you could fly with it if it held on), the hyperintelligent magical featherduster that could destroy an earth elemental in one round but wouldn't do anything for you unless you could pronounce its twelve-syllabul name properly ("Stupid human, learn to talk!"), the magical marker that could write on anything and loved to leave graffitti, the sword... ah, Nick. I miss that item- I just wish I still had its stats, or could remember enough to recreate it faithfully.
