Interested in Scarred Lands, but don't have books yet?

It seems that www.scarredlands.com is having a bit of a sale that might interest those just now getting interested in the Scarred Lands. They're selling the Creature Collection I, Creature Collection II, and the Scarred Lands Gazetteer: Ghelspad together for $24.99 + shipping and as a seperate combo deal The SL DM screen, DM companion, and the Scarred Lands Campaign Setting: Ghelspad for $19.99 + shipping.

Anyway, seemed like it might be a good deal for someone starting out in the setting, so I thought I'd post a heads up.

all worthy books
(OK I know that some people don't like the Gaz... but I've found it pretty useful, especially at fire sale prices)

I definately would go for CC II and the Ghelspad Gazeteer, although I wouldn't buy CC I since they're revising it and it has *alot* of mistakes (although it's still a nice source of ideas). Perhaps wait for the revision on that which will come after DnD 3.5 is out (to my knowledge).

Still you could buy the GM's tools, to get your started. The other stuff, not too shabby and besides CC1 is still semi-usable...sort of. :)

CCI is fine if you just need of set of stats and an idea. It is problematic if you rely on the CR system for designing you encounters or if you require to strict adherence to 3e monster building guidelines.

The first I think can be a problem, but then again relying too heavily on CR rating to set encounters for your PC's seems to have generated a lot of horror stories here in general so it isn't a problem isolated to this product, (though the CR's are definately more whacktastic than usual in the CCI). The second? Well your players probably won't know or care, and honestly I really can't see what the problem is myself, I think people tend to become to slavish to guidelines myself anyway.

I'd like to Pick up R&R I, but is it at a reduced price? What about the mini-modules or mini-settings associated to the Scarred Lands? I'm very interested in Mithril, and slightly interested in Hallowfaust.

Are these things at a reduced price? Anxious minds want to know!

That almost sounds too good to be true. How are they possibly making any money off this? I am tempted to pick a chunk of this up but I am worried about upgrades/updates with 3.5 on the way. Plus, I won't be able to run any of it for at least 4-6 months. Don't all of these books normally go for like $20-$25 a pop? I'm usally the trusting type but there has to be some kind of catch? I am corn-fuzzled....
