Interesting and unique SCIFI novels search!

Does anyone here know any novels with robots tahta in in the 1930 or 1940 earth? I am not looking for writers that write their views of robots in the future. I am looking for writers that write stories set in the past that has robots in that past. So Asimov is way out of the question for me.

Not a novel, but you'll want to check out the upcoming movie "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow"

Rossum's Universal Robots was a play written in the 20's, but it's basically written as a (then) present day story. Also, the play is the popular origin of the word "robot."

I knew about this one but want to do some reading as well. Even this takes place in the 20's, it os the closest. There are 2 to 3 anime movies that is close as well.

What I've read on Sky Captain says it's set in 1939 - Sky Captain flies a Warhawk P-40, and those weren't built until the mid-to-late 30's
