interesting question

My personal take on all weapons is that hp damage represents effort spent aviding a real injury. "Damage" may result in a scratch, bruise, or other significant injury, but it can also represent effort/chi/stamina/hero shield/divine will spend avoiding the attack. It's only when you reach into single-digit hp or negative hp that the hp loss always represents real injuries.

Actually killing someone with a weapon, whether mundane or simulated through arcane/divine/psionic means, would definitely leave a mark.

Whether local forensic science is up to the task of identifying the weapon used is another question.

If I ever wind up in your 3.5Ed game, I will play a Soulknife, just for spite. :)

It'll hurt you more than me, mate.

I think if anything this thread would seem to indicate that mechanically no-one knows and few people have a strong opinion either way (except Dandu who straight decides "Yes" with no real explanation or evidence).

Mind Blade (Su)
As a move action, a soulknife can create a semisolid blade composed of psychic energy distilled from his own mind. The blade is identical in all ways (except visually) to a short sword of a size appropriate for its wielder.

I'm the decider. I decide this means it leaves a mark.

I meant no insult by that, everyone explained themselves you just said "The answer is yes", actually reading the bit you quoted I'd agree with you, I had forgotten about that

I'm confused by the original question. Are you asking if being attacked by the soulknife's blade leaves behind cuts?

If so I'd say yes.

Unless I'm wildly missing the point a soulknife is basically Psylocke (from xmen). I assume her blades cut too.

But perhaps I'm missing something.

yes, that was the original question

no, Psylocke's psyblade does not leave a mark of any kind

I guess in retrospect, it would ideally be up to the GM...

yes, the power acts like a short sword (at lower levels) but the way I have understood it from reading, but than again I do have a history of misinterpeting things... that it's a visual representation of a soulknife's mind blade, it's composed of psychic energy thus if dropped it disappears and the soulknife can reforge it the following round...

thus it could conceiviably leave no mark, or leaves a short term mark like a bruising, a red mark where it was struck, etc...

I guess for the prospect of the soulknife in the story i'm planning on that it doesn't leave a mark as it is a story...

but as for the actual character i'm considering... he/she would start off as a soulknife/rogue hybrid and eventually (if lives long enough) picking up the Soulbow Prestige Class
