Interesting statement from a WizO on the D&D forum:

Huh. My understanding is that Wizo were employees (paid a small hourly fee), but still did not necessarily possess "inside information".
truth. they get paid now and have done for about 3 years. but they are still just on the messageboard/chat side of things. not really in the know. except that just like everyone else who hangs out online they do chat/talk more with some of the people who are in the know.

I wouldn't worry too much about 4e one way or the other right now. My distributor hasn't been solicited for 4e yet, so there's still a while before it's released & they probably would have it available for preorder at least 6 months ahead of time for such a major release. Once I do hear something about 4e, though, I'll pop over here and let y'all know. :D

Six months before release is minimum, because of the book trade. There are a few ways to look at this six month requirement:

1. February is the great D&D Experience. Month 2 + 6 = Month 8. Month 8 is August. Or GenCon, if you will.

2. August is GenCon. If the D&D Experience will always be in February then Month 8 + 6 = Month 2. February 2008. February = The D&D Experience.

I remember some talk about paying WizOs, but I didn't see it come to pass and always assumed it didn't. It could be that they are getting paid, but I don't think that changes anything. They aren't privy to goings on inside WotC. They just police the message board.

Now, is this a new piece of information? I haven't seen this assertion - that they're definitely not doing what they would be doing if they were going to revise the rules anytime soon - before.
This is not news to me. Monte Cook made that known many moons ago (the part about research having been done) in a nice, long blog revealing his opinion at the time regarding 3.5, it's timing, and the greatly overblown hullabaloo of "The sky is falling". I am quite convinced that ALL future revisions to D&D rules will be met with greatly overblown hullaballoo. Witness the reaction to changes to the FAQ, Sage Advice, new supplements, etc. Is it any wonder that people freak at the thought of a genuine VERSION change?

Additionally, WotC has repeatedly - REPEATEDLY that is - politely and openly declared for us all, "No. We are NOT working on 4th Edition. Remain calm." Just because someone actually vocalizes a tidbit that supports their perfectly-believeable-in-the-first-place assertion is not news of any kind. Not to me at any rate.

But Chicken Little is still running around out there convinced the sky is falling despite this "new information". Have no doubt about that. See the above posts for proof.

Exactly. :-)

I still fear 3.75 more before they release 4.0. :p
Good pic (:p) but WotC has said in the past that 4e will be released before a "3.75e" or "3.5e Revised" will be released. Not to say that either of those possibilities are impossible, but that is infact what they have stated in the past.

cheers,
