introducing women to your campaign

Although not from quite as long ago as the others on the list, I would add Dahia Al Kahena as a great figure upon whom to base a PC or NPC. Al Kahena was a Warrior-Queen of the Berbers of North Africa in the 600's AD. Although she was a Jewess, she united Christians and Pagans as well as Jews in the armed resistance against the march of Islamic armies from the Middle East.

After many years of fighting, she was eventually trapped and chose to take her own life. Before she died, however, she ordered her sons to surrender and convert to Islam. It is said that one of her descendants gave his name to the now British colony of Gilbraltar.

More info about Al Kahina can be found
here.

I have always used women in my campaign's. I mean comon, a world without women?! What kind of sick fantasy is that? Besides for the medieval mileu it is sort of unrealistic, unless you have a really high magic campaign, or maybe an all Dwarf Campaign.

Dwarf World - all (male) dwarves! all the time!

Oh you mean making women more of a presence, riiiight, gotcha...

Aaron.

Interesting site, but some of those 31 choices left me  as to why they were chosen.

Here's a few more influential and/or interesting women:

Hildegard of Bingen
Teresa of Avila
Elizabeth I
Catherine of Aragon
Marie Curie
Alice von Hildebrand
Hannah Arendt
Abigail Adams
Sojourner Truth
Elizabeth Cady Stanton

I don't have any websites for them, but I've got books in my library. :D

You wrote it correctly, but I read this as "Warrior-Queen of the Barbers."

"Short back and sides?"
"Yes, your majesty!"

Judging from the URL, the site is about ancient history; as the page says, the list is all "women from antiquity" -- i.e., from Way Back In The Day.

Neat site.

sorry, no comment yet but...

Just wanted to point out that this week is International Womens Week. Tomorrow night some lady friends and I including my mother-in-law and my daughters will celebrate by having a henna party and raising money for the local womens' shelter.

So everyone, call yer mom, sister, lover, wife, etc. and tell her what a fantastic woman she is.

Oh yeah, and er... buy Ambient Inc. books and support one of the few (if not only) RPG company with a female CEO. Yeah!
