A Kickstarter based on the popular superhero IP Invincible will launch on Kickstarter on September 23rd. Free League Publishing updated the description of their Kickstarter pre-launch page to confirm the news earlier today. The game will use the Year Zero Engine, similar to other IP-driven Free League games such as the Alien RPG. The RPG is desgined by designed by Adam Bradford and Tomas Harenstam.

The Kickstarter will include both a standard and collector's edition version of the Core Rulebook along with a new Starter Set. One stretch goal is a limited edition reprint of Invincible #1 that will only be distributed to backers and never reprinted ever again.

Invincible was originally created by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley as an Image comic book series. The series was more recently adopted into a Prime Video animated series. Several board games and comic spinoffs featuring side-characters have also been released based on Invincible.

Side note, I had issues 1-36 of the series….cant find 1-10 now, darn it! Also Adam, you still with FG as well?
That's rough to lose the first 10 issues - hope you find them.

And yes, I'm with still SmiteWorks. We've got some great stuff coming with Fantasy Grounds in the near future too!

Can anyone explain the gist of the Year Zero Engine game mechanics? Is it more traditional like D&D or GURPS or something fundamentally different?

It's a d6 dice pool system. 6's are good, 1's are bad. The other numbers usually don't mean anything. Each game tends to have variants on this core system.

The YZ system is used for nearly all Free League's games. Alien, Blade Runner, Forbidden Lands, Mutant Year Zero, Coriolis, Twilight 2000, Vaesen.

I've actually never played one of these
games, never played this kind of dice pool system.

I've played games that add d6s, like Shadow of the Demon Lord, but they add to the roll total, instead of only looking for 6s or 1s.

Not sure I get the pros for a dice pool system. It seems...strange, but not strange in a good way.

Want to like this, and I clicked to be reminded of the Kickstarter, because I'm a huge fan of the animated series.
