Invitation to join in a Role-Playing strategy game. The Rokugan Industrial Revolution

The Rokugan Industrial Revolution is a roleplaying game using the Rokugan campaign setting. It is a strategy game, meaning that it is won and lost through planning, scheming, and careful thought.

Players each are awarded some kind of "power" to control. Thier power could be a single dominant shugenga, or an army of elite samurai. Players get to pick and choose what kind of "power" they wish to obtain by claiming them from a list of powers in the world of Rokugan.

Many players choose to role-play through a single Player Character that is a member of thier power at large, and they play this person through alliances, conflicts, and simple conversation. Your player character is limited to starting at level 20, if you are curious. The actual level means little, but it is often part of a players interest to craft thier PC's stats and abilities.

The game is free-form, meaning that you can do anything with the powers and people you control. You can do anything to your own power that can be done with 9th level magic, and anything that you can imagine doing with technology and normal resources.

Wars are fought for control of land, and for control of things more important that any artifact. Players compete, trying to out scheme, and out diplomat other players for victory. But, in truth, the game is friendly, steady paced, and holds you. Players are always watching each other, like fans of each others plots, whether they are Dr. Evil (Austin Powers) or Emporer Palpatine (Star Wars). Players really do pay attention to every word you say (most of the time) and people respect the same people they are playing to conquer. That is the nature of this game.

If anything that I have typed has given you any questions about what I am talking about, here is the place to ask. If you would like to, or you think you would like to play with the people that are already joining this group, here is the place to ask.

Also, note the timeline below. Players are being accepted now, and until the 30th of July. We have five current members, and myself. We are looking to have 15 players by the time we begin, on the 30th of July. The timeline below illustrates what is going on, and players will be able to join in at any appropriate time. I might be playing in the game... I have an interest in playing the Dragon Clan, but that is yet to be resolved.

Timeline for The Rokugan IR

July 5th - This is the official start date for the IR. After I post the lists some time on this day, claims will begin. Players will be joining us after this date, and I hope to have between 7 and 15 players when we actually begin. On July 5th I will allot appoximately 1/25th of Rokugan's total PL to each player. Claims are based on 1st call basis, but you can contest claims for territories with other players. I will describe the claims process more in depth on the 5th.

July 12th - On July 12th we should have a better idea of how many players we will have. I will increase everyone's PL cap by 50% on this day. Some new territories may be introduced as well.

July 15th - I will be gone for 10 days, and someone will have to fill in as recruiting god, and oversee some of the changes as they happen.

July 25th - I will return, and take a few hours (maybe even a day or two) to figure out what is going on. This day will be the day that I assign the final PL cap. If any players want to take a sub-standard PL total, I will accept this, and I will award thier extra points, by random lottery, to other players.

July 30th - Turn 0 begins. This is a non-combat turn. It is the last minute to change decisions and make or break alliances before anything "happens."

August 1st - Turn 1 begins. This turn will begin at 4 PM eastern if we have a 90% or greater American ratio. After this point we will adjust for anything that needs adjusting.

My Email Address is creamsteak@hotmail.com and I would be glad to recieve notification from players (not to mention confirmation of your email address). My box was deleted while I was on vacation, so anyone whose address I "should" have is gone.

I am sorry but the d20 varient of Rokugan doesn't have the... Feel for me to be interested in this.

A level 20 courtier/diplomat is not concerned about going one-on-one with a goblin, but a Rank 5 Courtier certainly would not want to...

d20 took away a very large amount of feel. Very powerful people can be hostages to common bandits if they screw up. This is generally not the case in d20...

Sigh.

Hi, creamsteak! :)

I'm still interested in playing! But I'm still not sure if I will have th time to do so. :(

I'm relatively sure that I won't be able to post at weekends (though I might find a workaround if neccessary), which was a bad thing in the 3rd IR, so if the game runs full speed at weekends, I propably won't join (It doesn't have to stop at weekends, but maybe a little reduced pace would be helpful).

I'm not sure about the first post to this thread...

We are not playing a D20 game in any way. This is mostly free-form with some dice rolling to decide "who wins and by how much" if two players have competition. If you want something done, and no players are trying to stop you - it will get done. If a player wants to stop you... and they can... then the decision is made by random probability. Six-siders mostly, I don't want to deal with different dice for different things unless I need to.

About the second post to this thread...

Glad to see you are interested. You don't have to post on weekends, it won't be an issue. Turns should take about a week, giving ample time to most players. Players that can't manage to post during a week can make special arrangements with the moderator, or select another player to act as their eyes and ears when they can't.

oh, by the way, if you are very interested in playing, hop over to the "IN CHARACTER" forum on this messageboard. The thread should be easy enough to find.

I would not worry to much over the rules. Based on past IR's the rules are used in only the vaguest and most basic sense. Dice are never rolled. Or if they are, the styoryteller does it and just lets people know of results. Onthe other hand, if power level is an issue you might want to wait and see how the setup works. Past IR's also had powerlevels that would make even a hardened munchkin blush.:)

Black Omega :)

Glad to see your still around these free-moving messageboards. Will you be taking a pro-active roll in keeping me informed about the world of Rokugan? I can't wait to start, and I can't wait to try my hand at moderating.

I won't be anywhere near the storyteller Edena was, but I will try to at least be punctual and informative.

I'm happy to help however needed. I'm still pretty up to date on the world. though I -do- still need to get the newest card set. So much to do still...:)

Confused? If you are interested in finding out what we are all talking about... just hang around and you should slowly see it come together.

I joined the last IR about a week before the game began, and I had NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING, but I addapted, and it all makes sense now.

Note to Self: Remind everyone that the only thing they need to know as of this moment is: Do you want to play?

Thats the only thing I expect anyone to know, till the 5th. Then I will unveil a few more rules, and they should be easy to understand. You won't know a thing about the game till the 25th or so, when I start to expand on "how to play a free-form game."
