Ioun Stone + Disintegrate

What happens if a PC who has an ioun stone circling around his head was hit by a disintegrate spell and fails the save? The PC and his equipment will be disintegrated, of course. But what about the stone? Ok, the PC owns and uses it but it is not attached to his body directly.
If you follow the rules strictly, the stone would be destroyed, too (since it is part of the equipment), but are there other rules, opinios?

An Ioun stone is part of the characters equipment.

But A failed save against Disintegrate means the character is disintegrated, not his equpment.

The spell description says: "Only the first creature or object struck can be affected".
It does not mention equipment, so that is affected as per the standard rules for how equipment is affected by spells.

The FAQ says:

If a character fails her saving throw against a disintegrate spell, are all her items disintegrated with
her?
No. When a character fails a saving throw against a spell or other magical attack, all her items survive unless the spell or attack description says otherwise or the character rolls a natural 1 on the save.
