Ipads and gaming

Yeah.

It's funny - when iPad first was announced, I wasn't sure I'd ever be interested in one.

However, seeing my collegues and friends use it, and considering the rumored features that are expected to be a part of the iPad 2, I'm sold.

(We also recently subscribed to Netflix, and after a relative showed us how gorgeous the streaming video was on the iPad, that sealed the deal.)

Plus, the thought of being able to bring my entire Pathfinder pdf library with me when I go play D&D - well, the iPad just keeps getting better. :)

I was the exact same way, didnt want when it came out. But then laptop started to die and the appeal increased. So I got iPad in place of new laptop.

What PDF viewer do you use?

I'm holding out for iPad 2

Me three. With he caveat that my wife got one as a gift over the summer, and it is used by everyone in my family constantly; it may be the best piece of consumer electronics I've ever used in terms of the all the things it does, and does well. That said, as much as I want one, at this point I'll wait another 5 months for the inevitable upgrade, which will pack in more awesomesauce, I'm sure.

I'm gonna download the Dicenomicon with some Christmas money, I think. Heard so many good things about it. I'd not heard of Dungeon Mapp, but that sounds interesting, especially for free!

Used to be like that but then decided what is the point. There is always a bigger better coming along. When iPad2 comes out there will be rumors of iPad3 coming in a year.

So I just get what I want now. In two years I may upgrade to iPad3 and give my daughter this one, or I wont. But Im not going to keep waiting for the next big thing.

NoteTaker has been great, picked up a pen for writing on the pad and NoteTaker gives me graph paper; quickly draw maps and email them or screen capture (Press power and home button).

Index Cards - just what they say.

Pathfinder ruleset is available too.

Chapters for my campaign.

Diceomicon for dice rolling.

Now, upgrade your OS! Really helps put things together, plus multi-tasking!

You too, huh?

Thought I should share info about the Notion Ink: adam tablet. It's been talked about a lot in tech circles, but is finally getting ready for release.

notion ink: adam tablet

It should be ready for pre-order later this month. It's much more powerful than the ipad, has a ton more features, camera, best battery usage available, screen options that let you alternate b/t LCD or the Kindle-type screens for reading text, etc, etc. It uses Android so lots of apps are available, but not the # for the iPad... yet. However, .pdf's usage is standard, flash works, you can have multiple tabs open at the same time, etc.

Oh, and it's will retail b/t the $400-600 range which is a lot cheaper.

(I should add that I'm generally an apple lover - I currently own two ipod nano's and one ipod Touch)

dungeon mapp looks good, but wow it's pricey, and cartographer looks more useful, just from what I've read. I'm surprised to hear you say that about DM toolkit, which looked great. I'll start with pdf reader

Dungeon mapp has a free version, which is what I am using - it worked sufficiently for my purposes (I used it for the floormap of a zombie-infested maximum security prison).

Personally, I don't really think the iPad needs the Retina Display, it's rather impressive as it is. Do wish it had a simm card or unjailbroken support for a flash drive (though it'd look damn funny with a flash drive sticking out one side).

Overall, after 15 years of buying/building computers, laptops and game consoles, the ipad has been the one purchase I have not regretted. And I haven't been a fan of apple since after the Apple ][e.

Yeah I was waiting for the Adam, but it just took too long. Loving my EXO PC (win7 touch tablet 11.6") but the Adam looks pretty cool. The only worrying thing is that it appears they intend to try and make their money on the app store, not hardware. So no Android market until it is hacked

I have a very bad experience with having electronic devices around my game table, as they become a distraction from the game and encourage players to play with them rather than pay attention to the DM or to other players. Your experience, of course, may greatly vary from mine, and it probably depends on the players at hand to a great degree.
