New York, NY (June 18) - Coldblooded Games, the UK-based publisher of the Dog Town RPG, has signed with Indie Press Revolution (IPR).
Dog Town is a realistic RPG set in a New York City ghetto in the mid to late 1970's. It's about attitude and swaggering machismo and being a badass gangster. Life is often short and brutal, starting and ending in the gutter.
"I think this is a game that a lot of people will really enjoy," says Brennan Taylor, CEO of Indie Press Revolution. "You have to keep in mind though that this is a game for adults only."
There are 10 basic character archetypes in Dog Town: the A**hole (the language in the game is colorful, realistic, and adult), the Broker, the Dealer, the Heister, the Hustler, the Pimp, the Thief, the Thug, the Runner, and the Racketeer.
Combat is ultra-realistic with essentially every hit being critical and described in excruciating anatomic detail by the charts for various types of attacks (Stab and Slash, Blunt Trauma, Chopping, Boxing, Street Fighting, Wrestling, and Karate).
As RPGNow reviewer John Kantor says, "Dog Town has a unique tone and perspective that really brings to life the setting and rejuvenates the roleplaying genre. A straightforward system, it is completely integrated with the setting and style of play. Very comprehensive and well-interrelated rules really bring the setting to life."
Rules cover every gangster situation from running rackets and lying low to cracking safes and torture. Underpinning them all is the simple probability principle, a see-saw d20 ratio hinged on a median of 10 vs 10, which all conceivable actions can be applied to and resolved with.
"Cold Blooded Games sets out to provide gamers with funky hard-edged, hurtfully real games with innovative design and settings," says Jonathan Ridd of Coldblooded Games. "We emphasize a unique combination of simplicity and detail that brings a fun game to the table."
Dog Town contains nine detailed and colored neighborhood maps, 10 criminal types, rules on illegal rackets from gun running to pimping, and tools and hooks to create an appalling vivid gangster masterpiece. This game can be played as a traditional three to five-player game, but is ideally suited because of the dynamics for a one to two-player set-up.
WARNING: This game contains violence, swearing, and lots of criminality.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The Lostfinders Guide to Mire End, the first supplement for the A/State RPG, got a FOUR AND A HALF FLAME rating at Flames Rising. Reviewer Dan Jericho calls it, "A good and worthwhile purchase with a good price."
Poisoncraft: The Dark Art, a d20 sourcebook on all things poisonous, received a perfect FIVE FLAME rating at Flames Rising. Reviewer Peter Amthor says, "In the end I have to say this is one of the best D20 books that I have seen on the market. I have to give this book a five out of five. Highly recommended to anybody who uses the d20 system and would like to give a little more flavor to their poison selections."
