Iron Kingdoms city book is released

First Post
Apparently I've been living under a rock because this thing came out sometime in July. I had no idea until today when I saw it on the shelf at my local FLGS. I was under the impression that Privateer Press was done supporting their RPG and focusing only on the miniatures game. I guess I was wrong.

Here is a bit of info on the book from the website:

"Though it is a place of vibrant trade and rampant opportunity, it is also a haven for pirates, thieves, and dark cultists. One day you could be socializing with the political elite, and the next day you could be running for your life from enforcers demanding tribute. Five Fingers is an active port city filled with mystery, intrigue, and danger where an adventurer can make his fortune, build a criminal enterprise, or meet a dubious end.

Within the pages of this 208 page hardback:

Chapters narrated by characters from the city, designed to give players a street-level look at this city
A full color fold-out map of the city
Rules applicable to any city campaign such as rooftop chases, neighborhood ratings, and guidelines for running a gang (or fighting one)
Three new prestige classes: the Agent, the Enforcer, and the Malefactor of Thamar
All manner of shops, mercenary companies, gambling halls, gangs, coves, and cults to discover, as well as nearly 200 NPCs to meet"

And the cover:

Stiff competition with Ptolus and Cadwallon being essentially the same thing (RPG cities) but IMO there's enough room for everyone. I think I'll pick one up tomorrow, now that I've had time to think it over.

Yeah, I am currently circling the book like a vulture.... the circles getting smaller as payday approaches.

Looks very good, it includes relationship diagrams for the various groups/major characters/power blocs in the city, very much like some of the older World of Darkness setting books (such as Chicago) - one of the features that I liked best in the WoD books of the time.

Some rather flavorful feats, some setting specific prestige classes that I would actually like to play, a color map of the city, and the city itself is a wretched hive of scum and villainy! This city is about half the reason I purchased the Freeport Trilogy - it seems a similar setting in a lot of ways.

Privateer Press is definitely still supporting their RPG..

Comments from their boards:

"The next book will be MN2. It'll be half eastern Immoren critters and half western. It's nearing completion -- I think late this year is the plan. It'll be similar to the first in size.

Next will be a new adventure in which the PCs cross the marches to rescue Pendrake. A shortish, 10th level adventure. Meant as a hook to get campaigns east.

Sign & Sigil is probably next. It'll detail the way human magic works and such. If space permits, it'll have a detailed gunmage section that really explains those characters.

A Five Fingers adventure book is possible.

The IK material in NQ will get reprinted eventually in books with additional content. Not too soon, though.

IK art books will show up at some point. Probably in a series format.

NQ will be a big vector for new IK material. Classes, races, equipment (including, hopefully, a pricelist for some common mechanika), etc.

Doug totally wants to make a book devoted to the non-human races, but the material will more likely be seen as NQ articles ala "Blood of Trolls."

Zu, Ios, and the nations across Meridius are going to remain mysterious."

Holy crap, yes!

I picked it up a couple of weeks ago and have been reading through it... great stuff. Privateer is very slow with its RPG stuff BUT there it is sooooooo worth it (well maybe not all the rules BUT the fluff and art just continue to blow me away). The art, as always is the BEST and the fluff is really good also. I also really do like their No Quarter mag as it has had some great art and fluff in it also. Good stuff...

Yeah I'm waiting for some cash flow to pick up the Five fingers book. I'm also looking forward to the MN2. PP does put out some good stuff. They tend to advance the storyline a little too fast IMHO, this is done for the sake of the miniatures game and not for the rpg game. Since they advance the storyline for the sake of the miniature game it gives the impression (again IMO) that they care less about the rpg game. The Character guide came out in 2003, since that release two new major events happened which has kinda outdated the book.

rant over.....yes I'm wanting to get my hands on the Five fingers (which is what we were talking about right? :) )

Five Fingers is one of the best D20 books I've seen. I friggin' love it! Beautiful map, great detail on all the islands, well-written...I wish they released their RPG stuff more frequently.
