Iron Kingdoms city book is released

I'm also curious. What event's have transpired in the metaplot since Witchfire trilogy?

War broke out, Llael was conquered by the Khadorans, Nyssor Winter Father (God of the Elves) has died and the Nys elves are now scattered and leaderless, the arrival of even more Skorne and a plethora of other plot advancements.

Having both a mini game (Warmachine) and an RPG (Iron Kingdoms) set in the same world and the same time period is both a blessing and a curse. For a GM, each of the large scale mini releases (Prime, Escalation, Apotheosis, Hordes, Superiority) is a treasure trove of table top scenario's, plot hooks, well written prose and really spectacular illustrations, cleverly disguised as a mini expansion.

The opposite side of that coin is that Privateer Press does a great job of advancing the background story their mini line, so that the line and the scenario's for mini combat remain fresh. But that is a much faster pace than most gaming groups (campaigns) can manage, meaning that future RPG books may not be as usable as players want.

At times, the question around the speed of the advancing meta-plot has been a hot topic on the Privateer Press boards. I read somewhere that the 5-Fingers city book would be more meta-plot neutral, allowing it to be used by almost every campaign, but I haven't picked it up yet so I can't confirm that.

Even so, Iron Kingdoms is one of the most outstanding RPG games I have ever had the pleasure to play. I have yet to be disappointed with anything that Privateer Press publishes.

I'm reading through it right now.

I love Privateer Press. LOVE them. At Gen Con I played in an adventure set in Five Fingers and it was an absolute blast. Picked up the book RIGHT AWAY afterwards. So very, very good. :)

That sounds awesome. Was it run by someone from Privateer? What was the Privateer booth at GenCon like this year? I thought they stole the show last year.

It is, indeed, fairly meta-plot neutral.

Wholeheartedly seconded. If it's even half as good as the first MN, it'll be the best monster book of the year. Period. End of story.

Amen to that.

Hey everyone,

The 5 Fingers book is excellent.

Glassjaw: As for GenCon, the events were hosted by Privateer Press. There were many Intro to the Iron Kingdoms games, that are run every year. In addition, they run several 4 hours RPG events too. This is in addition to the Miniature stuff that goes on. The DMs included Nate Letsinger, the Brand Manager for the RPGs, Dan Weber, a volunteer, and me another volunteer. Dan wrote and DM'd the 5 Fingers session.

QueenD: I am so glad to hear you had fun. Is it OK if I send your comments to Dan. He's a great guy and would love to hear the feedback.

Game ON!

I wonder if anyone has thought of doing a comprehensive timeline of the setting, so that those GMs who want to plan in advance, but only have the RPG material will have an idea of where the setting is going.

I don't follow the miniature game, what were the events?

Well the first one was the war with khador and Llael and Cgynar. True that this was alluded to in the book and was acknowleged by the world guide.

The next was the destruction of the Nyss homelands and the scattering of the Nyss. A dragon that lives in the north blighted several of the Nyss tribes and then pused the survivors southward

Hordes brought the invasion of the skorne

Recently there was the destruction of a city in northern Cygnar...fisherbrook? Wasn't a big city...but hey still it would have sucked if your campaign was set there and future books treat the place like a smoking crater.

Now to be totally fair some would argue that these events were forshadowed and not totally off the wall. Which wasn't what I was upset about. It was that since No Quarter is a monthly release they can release the fluff about the new hordes and WM units very quickly.
This fluff obviously affects this world as a whole. So now when you have players making a character you have to explain to them how the race they wanted to play has changed.
