Iron Kingdoms - tell me about them please

Vol. 1 is the Character Guide and Vol. 2 is the World Guide.

Yup, around 400 pages each... The book was only supposed to have around 250 when it was going to be a single volume... it grew a bit larger than that. :p

All of the crunch is in volume 1, most of the 'fluff' is in volume 2.

The 3.5 Monsternomicon is at the printers NOW according to PPSNatebot at the PP forums.

The IKCG/IKWG and MN are enough material to support several campaigns!

Thanks for all the information. I saw a copy of the monsternomicon on eBay... but, I think the price was a bit high. is that an essential book, or can you use monsters from the regular WotC Monster Manual, too?

It's not really essential, any more than the MM is essential for a normal game. A lot of bad guys in many IK games'll be classed NPCs, anyways, and with the Multitude of Monsters .pdf I mentioned, you should be all right. However, the MN1 does have many very cool monsters, along with unique treasure sections and exactly what info you find with variable-DC Knowledge checks. It also contains 3 PrCs, the Adventuring Scholar, Monster Hunter, and Bone Grinder, as well as good info on the infernals. It's certainly a cool book, and I'd be disinclined to run an IK campaign without it.

Thanks - no matter the world with me, the main BBEG usually ends up being some sort of NPC with classes, be it a human necromancer or evil barbarian warlord.

So here's a question: I probably wouldn't end up running IK as d20. Is it still worth it for me to get the Character Guide, or will just the World Guide do?

Yeah, you should get the Character Guide. It includes huge amounts of information on the religions, the calendar and holidays, cosmology, the nature of the sorcerous and necromantic arts.

I would say very useful.

Plus cool pictures.

Iron Kingdoms always seems to remind me of Fullmetal Alchemist. I don't know why, but the magical/technological setup, and the whole brink of conflict situation are very tempting to me, simply because of the numerous story arcs that can occur.

Now, how long does it take for something to get to the printers out to the shelves of my favorite gaming store?
