Iron Kingdoms World Guide. Any good?

It's a great book, and full of flavor - gives a great depth to the world, and considers the little details that make it come to life.

[shameless praise]
I will buy every IK book without even waiting for reviews. Why? Because I've come to expect quality stuff from Privateer, and I haven't been disappointed yet.

If you're unsure about using IK firearms rules, I'd recommend reading the .pdf PP put up on their homepage a while ago.

Hey AuldGrump, hopefully you'll check back here. Could you tell me what other books you use for the setting, or provide links to your posts? I would be very interested.

Well, some of them are now redundant because of the Character Guide, but...

Steam & Steel, in particular the rules for railroads and for prosthetics. Over on the E.N. World forum you will find a whole bunch of mods for steam trains that I created. (I may well have been the first person to buy Steam & Steel, it is a very good product.)

Sorcery & Steam, mostly the prestige classes, again some have been made redundant, but a good number I have kept, you will need to go through them and pick the ones that you feel are appropriate. And the rules for guns - I really do not think that any army would spend 2 gp per shot... I even dropped the price as given in S&S. As you may notice if you have read some of my posts around E. N. World I like blackpowder weapons, and used to fire them as a hobby. The rules in IK bothered me - a firearm is faster than a heavy crossbow in real life, and the weapon as described does not seem worth the cost.

Swashbuckling Adventures - I use the limb loss rules, somewhat modified. Since I have prosthetics in my game I want a reason for them to be needed. I do the same in my OGL Steampunk game (or more accurately I started using them in OGL Steampunk and will use them in IK as well, when I start the campaign up again.) Essentially if a character fails a Massive Damage check then they may spend an action point to lose a limb rather than die.

Unearthed Arcana, odds and ends, in particular Action Points (see above).

Deadlands D20, the rules for Gatling guns, used for certain 'jack mounted weapons.

Some critter books, some feats from Netbook of Feats, and various odds and ends.

For me D20 is a salad bar, and I am a gourmand.

The Auld Grump

Once Barsoom wraps up (prolly later this year) I'll be trying to decide which of two games I want to run: a heavily modded Exalted game set in Barsoom's ancient times or a straight-up Iron Kingdoms game.

Like Ryltar, I'll buy anything Privateer puts out on sight. Four books in a row they've hit it out of the park.

The World Guide is great. It's all great. Tasty. Crunchy. Yummy.

And filling, too!

I can't praise their products enough. I see Privateer Press as the kind of company that has managed to take their love of gaming and really put together a line of products that have great story, mechanics and art. I only wish that more people could be exposed to these great products so we could see more of the RPG stuff at cons.

Ditto. The only reason I don't have the World Guide yet is that the few times I've been into the game store, they were sold out. Heck, I even picked up Warmachine and Escalation, even though I had much less interest in the wargame. I just wanted the pretty books... ;)

Thanks. I just ordered it. I'm really lookin' forward to getting it and checkin' it out. I'll order the character guide next.

Another IK fan here. I think PP is really on a roll. This is the best D&D setting yet.

The Liber Mechanika is coming as well, probably late '05. :)
