Yea, the wife came down and saw a lot of books laying around after the last game..."You are still going to use these books when the new editioncomes out right?? RIGHT????"

What do you say to that?

jh

You know, Emirikol, I sold most of my 3e on Ebay. I got an average of $10/book, and in the end I made about $400 from them. I sold everything that hardly hit the table, but I KEPT stuff that I could get inspiration from.

I kept:

The core three.
ALL the Monster Manuals (I don't own MM5)
Heroes of Battle (LOVE this book; the victory point mass battles rules are edition transparent)
DMG2 (truly excellent source stuff)
Dungeonscape (more excellent ideas... plus, who can throw away Rich Burlew?)
Magic Item Compendium & Spell Compendium (because I like catalogs)
Cityscape (the listing of city wards and sections saved this book from Ebay)
Unearthed Arcana (because it absolutely rocks)

Going forward, I'm going to start using my 2e books more with 4e. There were some absolutely incredible 2e books that never made my 3e shelf, but I'm over edition changes at this point. 2e books that will see regular 4e use in my game will be:

Castle Guide
Arms & Equipment Guide
DM's Sourcebook & Catacomb Guide
A Mighty Fortress, and perhaps some other greenbacks.

There are others, but I have to go to work. :D

I said "doesn't care," but it's actually different. It's more like, "you never buy anything for yourself anymore. Go get it!" "Isn't it coming out for Christmas, or something? Why don't you buy it?"

She constantly complains that I should go treat myself and buy something, and she wants me to be happy. She also looks hot and loves me. It's getting to where I can't stand it!
Maybe she's concerned about you because she knows what happened to your last few wives? Which one is she, by the way - Catherine, Anne, Jane?

My SO plays so I'm not sure how to interpret those poll options.
Ditto. She's only annoyed about the books coming out in June, because my birthday is end of May... she wanted a PHB for me...

Cheers, LT.

I can sympathize... I've had the same problem for the last nine and a half years. And to top it all off, my wife DMs and plays RPGs as well. What's a man to do? :(

It's almost enough to drive a man to play Basic... almost.

My wife plays and occasionally DMs, but doesn't obsess about D&D between games like I do. ;) If I start talking to her about 4e while we're doing other stuff, she becomes annoyed. However, talking to her about 4e over a long boring car ride she was interested and animatedly involved in the conversation.

This poll seems a bit confused to me. Is it intending to ask "does your wife care about the expense of buying more rulebooks" or is it looking at something else, like the time you will spend playing it when it comes out?

For me, there isn't an additional expense with 4e coming out. I buy an rpg book about every other month -- the frequency determined mostly by how often WoTC publishes something that seems interesting to me. The 4e announcement ensured I will buy nothing until the release of 4e. If anything, 4e is saving me money.

I dunno about you guys, but my wife is pissed I have to buy new crap. How's it for the rest of you?

jh

I, not my wife, decide what I spend my fun-money on. Even though she doesn't get DnD, she vastly prefer Dnd over EQ or WoW. She gets to see me occasionally ;)
