IS Gary Gygax's World Builder Hardcover any good?

Hey jgbrowning!
Where are you at? What is your LGS? I am in Irving, right next to the Donut Dome, so I usually shop at the Lone Star over here. But I am always looking for a good LGS...

I'm in Dallas near central and royal. My FLGS are Lone Star (they have six stores in the area i think, and the one in arlington is the HQ) and Game Chest in Valley View mall.

Lone star i go to more often because its not in a mall and its near the grocery store i shop at.

Game Chest, however, is IMHO the better store. They've been around for a long long time.. (18 years?) and the guy who owns it is closely associated with GAMA, so he's well informed.

I tend to buy 60% from LS and 40% from Game chest. I like them both and i want both of them to stay around.

I'm curious what sort of job pays you enough to afford all this, but allows you enough free time to read all this and play D&D?

And do you think they will higher me?

I would say that I split 60-40 with Lone Star in Irving getting the bigger portion. But I do frequent the Game Chest. I agree, the guy who runs it does seem pretty knowledgeable. But he is definitely a "Weird Pete".
The only thing that bugs me about his place is the "used" material. He has a collection of the Planescape Boxed Sets from 2e that have been driving me crazy, but he wants $40 each for them...
I generally get miniatures at the Lone Star though, as they have a better Reaper selection.

Heh, the whole store is a bunch of "Wierd Petes", but they do know their stuff! :)

They're a lot like me, now that i think about it. (well other than that knowning my stuff bit. )

I went to check out the review on RPG.net and I don't think it's the same book. It is Worldbuilder's Guidebook but it's by Rich Baker and it was published by TSR (the date published isn't listed but that should tell you it's nowhere near recent).

Am I missing something?

On Amazon, the only thing that had Gygax on it recently is "Experts" basically a book on building NPC's (and he only did the foreward). The book is getting rave reviews btw. [edit: he also edited a Scarred Lands suplement apparently]

It might be the second edition book that was put out by Wizards, it has the same name.

Right, but I'm just saying that the criticism of "World Builder" on this thread is unwarented because it's of the wrong book!

There are no reviews of the actual book (by Gygax) on RPG.net. In fact good luck finding it on Amazon. It took me a google search before I found a blurb for it on gamingreport.com.

I work at a construction job Bagpuss. I do residential remodeling(mostly big jobs too, we've added on second floors to some houses).

I suppose the guy might hire you, but that'd be one hell of a commute from England to Jersey!

Although long have we been friends, England and Jersey, and never once have you invited us over for tea and cake, or cannoli.
