Is it possible to houserule feats in new CB?

Our group likes to provide the Expertise feats for free in all our campaign games. On occasion, other feats are potentially allowed for free as part of Quest Rewards as well (toughness for example).

I've not seen how this can be done in the new online character builder. Am I missing this feature or has it been removed entirely? If so...any word on it coming back?

On a similar note, are there any ways to houserule magical items? We often do very slight modifications to items. Example: There are tons of items that trigger off of melee attacks only, we tend to houserule a good deal of those items to apply to melee or ranged attacks leaving everything else the same. This is a simple fix since the character builder has no problem equipping such gear to begin with..the player simply needs to remember they can use it.

Unfortunately houserules are unsupported at the moment. They say they are going to add support... but we don't have a solid timeline as to when yet.

Nope - it is the MAIN reason I won't use the new CB. My campaigns always use alot of houseruling.

Very disappointing they didn't implement them. :(

My campaign is mostly house ruled. That's the point of D&D. As far as I'm concerned, the old CB wasn't house-rule-able enough. What about new skills instead of just adding an extra one of the old skills?

I hope now that they can safely avoid piracy, they'll actually allow those things (as I imagine piracy. mixed with peoples creativity would lead people away from 4Es narrow mindset).

They say they did some marketing around "important features" users would need. How did this not get right up there. The old CB's just wasnt solid enough, and I just ended up including a crib sheet with everyone's characters.

I was SO hoping that this new tool would have better support, and crushed when it didnt.

This is one of the biggest annoyances with the new CB for me, too. I hand out Expertise and Defense feats for free, which makes the whole lack of houseruled feats annoying.

For now, we work our way around it. My players just hit Paragon Tier (after playing for 2 years), so they write down their free +1 to all NAD's on their sheet manually.

For the free expertise feats, there's kind of a workaround using another CB bug (what's that about two wrongs make one right?): retraining a feat removes the feat from the rules calculations, but it leaves the feat description and text in your lineup on the character sheet. The way we put in Expertise on a number of my characters is to retrain a feat that's not involved in the calculations anyway (like, say, Saving Inspiration from the Warlord) to the relevant Expertise feat. That way, both feats appear on the sheet, and the expertise feat is correctly included in the attack calculations (that is, as long as you're not using Staff Expertise + melee attacks... meh).

lol, that is a great work around. Just retrain a feat that is based on circumstance or wont have a big impact on the character sheet.

Thanks for the tip, hopefully they'll get around to adding at least limited houserule options in the coming months.

I have to say houseruling feats and powers is the biggest feature I'm missing for the online CB (this is not to say other bugs and missing features don't affect me). I have a few characters with bonus feats and powers from various sources, be it house rules, items, or divine boons. For instance the paladin has a Symbol of Turning, but there was no way to get the Turn Undead power to print on the character sheet, so I just houseruled it in so it would print. The Warlock has Corellon's Boon of Arcane Might, and I was able to select the at-will power as encounter power, but wasn't able to select the encounter power as daily power, so I did it with the houserule button. And of course all my players have free expertise feats.

For the moment I'm sticking with the offline CB, I can live without the new source books, and they have a little ways before they get to level again. I'm hoping before then, the online CB will have the houserule options.

Lord Ernie, thanks for the workaround tip. I might end up using that.
