I see that an awful lot, and I don't understand it in the least. When's the last time you read an account of King Richard leveling up during the crusades, or Longshanks leveling up after getting the XP for taking out William Wallace? If you have a problem with levels (and I do, although not a deal-breaker problem) why is it not a universal problem? I don't see how a medieval game is any more suited to levels than a modern or futuristic one is.billd91 said:Personally, I'm not too keen on level-based systems for most modern or science-fiction style games. But I do like level-based games for medieval/fantasy setting games and so d20 fits that bill nicely.

Eh, they're not that bad really. Although they do certainly lean towards games like Risus and Exalted as a community instead of d20. However, you definitely owe it to yourself to read this thread at least once in your life. Me, I have to pull it out every few monthes and relive the memories.nakia said:Nope. Hey Diaglo, what's it liking being an afficiando of old DnD? I mean, did you ever try the new systems, or were you just content enough that there was no point in changing? Just curious.
Diaglo has played a lot of 3.X and AFAIK is still playing it. That's why I have lots of respect for him. It's OK not to like other systems - after you've played them, and after you've played them long enough to tell whether the gripes you have are with the system or with the DM. I've met no end of people who declare their hatred of D20 after having just flipped through the books or played just one game. Sometimes, not even that.Nebulous said:]Hey Diaglo, what's it liking being an afficiando of old DnD?
